Default question for some 4.77 owners

Hey guys im considering getting a fd gear for my ap1 and im really leaning towards the 4.77 right now since theyre gonna be the fastest obviously. although some things im worried about is the top end, if i start a race from somewhere around 50mph will the 4.77's actually hurt me in that case? and i also planning on getting a single 70mm exhaust but i often do highway driving and i know the rpms will be up there with the 4.77's and i think i might blow out my ear drums with the 70mm. it sounds like the 4.44's is a good balance, but i really want the most power i can get from this mod since its about the same price, would you guys say the difference between the 4.44 and 4.77's isnt that much different and for the comfort issue i would be better off with the 4.44's? or will the 4.77's blow the doors off the 4.44 making it worth having to sacrifice some top end....

i would search and gather some more information from various threads but the search function seems down.... again.

Yes they will!

I'm going to give you some really good advice, The 4.77's give you 16% torque multiplication in a given gear but not 16% faster exceleration from your car. There is a distiguishment to make there. In my experiance, 4.44's are your best compromise for 0-60, and quarter mile exceleration, and yes one of the other bennifits of this choice over the others is the lower hwy rpm. The 4.44 gear set matches the power curve and shifting points of the s2000 better then any other gear made, period. After you pull out of first gear with a 4.57 or 4.77 your at a disadvantage.

If you have any power adders, the 4.44 and the 4.77's divide become even more pronounced. If you don't care about being the fastest and just want the torquier feeling, go with 4.57 or 4.77's but I would highly recommend the 4.44's or even 4.30's over the higher gear sets.

You can simulate up to a 4.33 with just a rear tire change if you want a free way to explore what affect this will have and help you to see whats going on. You can pm me if you want the tire sizes to try.

s2000 junky, do you own 4.77s?...well i do so here goes...i could care less if my car is faster than the next guys b/c the 4.77's make the car more fun...who does 0-60 in an s2000, if u do please sell your car...a race from 50 depends on a lot of things not just gears...your in an s2000 which i assume is stock, nothing short of FI is gonna "blow the doors off" anything...now for sacrificing top end, when are you gonna be going 120+ enough times to notice even if it does...they are not uncomfortable on the hwy idk where that crap came from...if anything they help u by not having to downshift to make passes and such...do u cruise at 85+? If not then u have nothing to worry about....its been mathematically/scientifically proven that 4.77's are the fastest gears

lol i own the 4.77 as well and it is TOO MUCH fun. i know that it's not the best gear choice for all situations, but for fun factor, it is the best. if you plan to get the T1R exhaust you will be cruising in higher rpms, but depending on your throttle position, i'd imagine the drone wouldn't be as bad, because the higher your rpms are, the less drone there is. cruising at about 4000 rpm would have less drone (depending on throttle position) than cruising at 2500 rpm. the 4.77 will pull noticeably harder than stock (and i suppose harder than any lower gear ratio) in any gear (even if that doesn't translate to going faster), which makes it fun.

it is a myth. they're the perfect balance for cruising in all different types of roads/situations.

so whats the big deal of the 4.56/4.57's then? so the RPMS arent TOO high on the 4.77's for AP2?

I'm so confused about this as well......So basically the 4.77's are better over all because it releases more torque persay? I think this is a great mod.....but how much does it sacrifice the gas mileage and daily driving?

i get more than 250 mpt...so idk once again where this bs is coming from...the big deal is people like different things and try to force what they like as the best and then u have bandwaggon hoppers who don't even have the mod to agree with em
