Default Question: What is the best material for body kits?

Hello there, I'm curious as to what the best material for body kits is. There seems to be alot of choices out there (Urethaine/ Kevlar/Carbon Fiber/Fiberglass), and I really don't know much about the pros and cons for each material. Which will last the longest, is the most sturdy, and is least resistant to chip and cracks? Discuss! Thanks!

it all depends on the manufacturer who makes the body kit.

fit and finish is easier to work with on fiberglass because it can be molded and worked with in order to fit properly. urethane is a little tougher when it comes to fitiment, cuz if it doesnt fit perfectly, its very difficult to mold the urethane to fit. you have to stretch it and stuff.. it could get pretty ugly.

urethane is much more impact resistant than fiberglass. fiberglass tends to shatter and crack when hit.. this is especially true when lower front lips that crack when they come in contact with the ground. urethane will act somewhat like your bumper and absorb some of the shock.

if you can find a body kit made out of urethane that fits perfectly, thats the way to go. unfortunately i dont think anyone makes a urethane kit for our cars.

as for carbon fiber and kevlar, i havent personally seen any kits made out of this yet.. there are are small things like splitters and spoilers which ive played with in the past, my carbon splitter was pretty damn strong, but really expensive. i can only imagine how much a full CF bumper would cost..

I am planning on getting my s2000 within the next couple of months, and the kit that i'm interested in is actually made from carbon fiber/kevlar. So can i assume that this will be high quality stuff? Also, I know the Backyard Special kit is Urethaine, but i've talked to some people who have bought this kit and they had less than favorable things about its quality. Here is a link to the kevlar/carbon fiber kit i am talking about:

ohhh, thats just a front lip right? carbon fiber/kevlar is very strong, the only place you kinda have to worry about is in the seams.. they might crack, but its very unlikely.

nice lip, are you going to have it painted?

how much are you getting it for? i see that its around $289..

The price I was quoted was $1645 for the full kevlar/carbon fiber kit (front lip, side skirts, rear under spoiler).

Best is Polyurethane. Especially for front airdams etc. It flexes so it doesn't crack or become brittle. When spraying, it also does not show warps as does fiberglass etc.
