a question for young S drivers
Currently i'm 19 and planning to buy a S2000.
A few questions for you young S owners around my age.
1 - What is the average $ that you make monthly?
2 - How much is your monthly payment on the car?
3 - How about the insurance monthly for you guys?
I really love this car for years and I'm taking a big step by paying-off my credit cards bills. After that I will try to loan enough money from the bank. I hope this car won't give me great depression with money from payments, insurance, gas, etc...
any other suggestion? thanks a lot guys!
If it's too much then i'll probably try to get a 1993 RX-7...is that a better choice, u think?

I am 21 and I just got my 05 s2000 a month or so ago. I wouldn't reccomend buying it unless you can throw down a pretty hefty down payment. I sold my 05 dakota, and my 240sx project car that my truck was supposed to pull to the track. Anyway I have 10k financed and have a 209.00 a month payment and 150.00 insurance a month.
As far as the FD goes, I've always wanted one, It was always my dream car, but it doesn't have the reliability of a piston engine (ahonda one at that), and it's not a convertible.
All my friends wanted me to get a Z33, but they are haggard ugly, I found my dream car should have been the s2K in the first place - I got no regrets

If you don't believe me, do some more research on the board. Car payments...high, insurance payments for a 19 yr. old...HIGH, gas 91+ octane...high, replacement tires...HIGH, etc...all HIGH. You are right... this car will give you "great depression" if you are "cash" challenged.
Hmm, I don't agree with the nay sayers, I was in the exact same boat as you. When I was 19 I put $16k down on my first S2000 (bought used for $24k), paid it off in 1.5 years and put the money I got from it ($20k) on my 05 S2000. I also financed $11k on my 05 car.
BTW I do not and probably never will own a credit card, my theory is unless it's a house or car, if you don't have the money for it, you don't need to buy it. There are hundreds of S2000 owners out here paying more on their aftermarket parts than the actual car payments.

i financed my whole car (was 22 when i got it) except the down payment- and pay 309 a month insurance with me and my wifes passport- and i am in the military and i float. granted i dont have all the b.s. money my friends do- but when its time to go out they all want to ride in my car! plus- owning an s2k you learn you dont have to go out and buy every video game and cd you see.

Then there's the routine maintenance and the great prospect of being involved in an accident.
I'd say stray away from this car or any other eye-catching cars until you're fully employed w/ enough disposable income and without significant CC debt.
I did the same thing at your age, bought a car I really couldn't afford. Long story short: I ended up selling the car a year after I bought it to get something more affordable. You don't want to be spending <50% of your monthly income on your car...trust me.
Now, I am 24, have a good job, and can afford an S quite easily. Patience is a virtue young grasshopper. Exercise it.

Not to sound like a smart a$$ or your parents...but if you are asking these questions...you are not ready to own an S2000.

. If i was the OP, the only question i would ask myself is "how much do i want it?" Sure it'll lighten you pockets but you could always get a second job. You jus have to ask yourself, "how bad do i want it?"
