Default Questions about a MY00...

So I found a meticulously maintained 2000 S2000 with 3200 miles on it (no, I'm not missing a 0). It was a one owner car by a 70 year old man who apparently only polished it and changed the oil. He traded it in to a dealer to buy his grandson a Civic.

I got a copy of all the service records, and I'm amazed at how nuts he was about the maintenence. "Own oil. No clean, no vacuum, no drive." The oil has been changed 5 times and it has only 3200 miles! The only thing that concerns me is that immediately after he got it, one of the service records says "Runs Poorly - Warranty" and it says 4 parts with number 06164-PCX-000 (hard to read, that 1 may not be a 1). Does anybody know what that part is?

It's on the original tires. Should I be concerned about how old and not-so-sticky the rubber might be now?

I would look to change the tires being that they are now 5 years old. Also check to see if all the TSB's have been done. Is the car Honda Certified?

I can believe it. My grandfather bought a C5 about 14 months ago and has since only put 600 miles on it!!! I just don't understand it..

Bear in mind that a 5 yo car with 3200 miles on it was driven (on average) about 640 miles/year. Obviously, that nothing! One of the hardest things you can do to any vehicle is just let it sit. Engines, transmissions, and rear ends do a lot better if they're exercised from time to time.

This car has the potential to be a real sweet deal but expect there to be some teething problems in the beginning, at least until all the mechanicals limber up.

Good luck,
Steve R.

Edit: PS: I'd bet that "runs poorly" statement in the maintenance records is a direct result of the car "not" being driven on a regular basis. Modern gasoline doesn't store well for long periods of time.

The part number belongs to "fuel injector, set". don't know why those would need replaced?

Definately change the tires. I have a my00 and when I bought it last year it had the original tires. There were rotted and the car was loose as poo.

Good find man.

Thanks, I'll keep this in mind.

The "runs poorly" complaint was made on the day the car was delivered! That's what concerns me.

The car is in Northern Montana, so I doubt the roads will be good enough to give it much of a test drive, especially on those old tires.

The car is listed on the dealer's website, but not under Honda.com's certified cars so I guess it isn't. Is that cause for concern?

well im an owner of a 00. there are several tsb's on the car. like fading headlights, sparkplugs, the boot for the top if itz a soft top, seat belt retractors. and i think there might be some more. so if u do get the car be sure to take into honda and they will fix it for free. but other wise then that get a test drive and see how it runs.

Good to know. Can I get the TSBs done at any Honda dealer? The one that has the car is in the States, I'm planning on importing it to Kanuckistan.

Does Honda support TSB after the warranty has expired?
