Default Questions about s2000 security

Okay I might buy an 03 s2k with about 67k miles on it. It comes with a factory hardtop and appears to be well maintaned. I'm a little unsure about the security of these cars though. I live in the suburbs of a city where kids steal hondas like mad. I've already had someone steal the corners off of my Audi in front of my house. Unfortunetly this car is yellow, will be parked outside, and i live on a busy street. Basically i have a parking pad that the car will sit on thats maybe 5 feet from the street. In the back of my head i hear a little voice saying that this car is asking to be stolen or at least broken into. I plan on installing my alarm that has a pager remote, motion detecting, and battery backup but this hasn't stopped previous theives to try to break into my bimmer. Although it stopped them from stealing anything because they were too dumb to realize the battery was in the trunk. Anyway here are some questions.

I see that some people have their hardtops stolen. I found a site that makes brackets to bolt them down and that seems like an absolute option. My question is how long would it take to break a window and take off the hard top? Is it bolted down anywhere? I know its usually a two man job but the way my house is setup this could be done.

Can the doors be slimjimmed? Does the old shave down a honda key work on S2k's? I know this works on older hondas.

I've read that people have had their s2k's stolen. Isn't it true that you need the OEM chipped key to start it? Or are people actually towing them away?

Any information is greatly appreciated.

if someone wants it bad enough, they're going to get it....
sounds like you've answered your own question...
if you can't sleep at night for fear of someone stealing your car...
find another car or get a bigger gun...

Somehow i just new someone was gonna post the "if they want it they will get it" phrase. That logic works on any car. I've had a CRX broken into twice, bimmer once, hyundai excel once, and an Audi. Its obvious that people are gonna try to get what they want but I'd like to know how difficult.

My questions are pointed to see if i can actually sleep at night. For Example: If two people can take the hardtop off in 30seconds and throw it in a truck with the alarm blaring, thats a concern.

If they want it bad enough they will take it.

The good thing with the s2000 is that people don't really steal the entire car because they have no use for it. Its not like a Type R where you can swap every part but the frame into another Integra or Civic.

If they want anything from your s2000 it will be your seats, and the hardtop since that is an easy resell. You need to make the final decision.

End of the day, the HT can be removed, so if a thief wants it, they will get it - it latches into the car so its pretty easy to take - it comes off about as easily as the soft top opens.

Can the doors be slimjimmed? Does the old shave down a honda key work on S2k's? I know this works on older hondas.

Yes the doors can be slim-jimmied (SlimJim is beef jerky btw) - very easy to open a Honda door this way, like any car. Shaved keys don't work. You need a chipped key to start it, but professional thieves know how to defeat these measures as they are on all cars these days.

Bottom line is that if a thief wants the car, it could get stolen. A good aftermarket alarm and kill switch are good defense mechanisms, but nothing's bulletproof.

Definitely not true. I'm guessing you haven't seen the latest top 10 stolen cars list...

However, it's very easy to swipe a hardtop (it does not improve security at all) and seats are definitely a frequently stolen item.
