Default Quick oil question

The last time I had my oil changed was at the 7500 service. What type of oil did the honda dealer put in, Conventional or Synthetic? The reason I ask is because the oil level has gone down a little and I want to top it off but I don't want to add the wrong type of oil. Thanks

Check your bill. Probably put in 10W-30 regular oil. You would have to request or bring in synthetic oil.

Doesn't matter. All oils mix fine. Just check the viscosity and minimum API letter grade required in the owners manual and you will be golden.

ok I purchased both Castrol Syntec and Castrol GTX. Obviously, Syntec is a "synthetic" compound while, I suppose GTX is "conventional" motor oil. You guys are saying they are pretty much the same? And even "mixable?" There's got to be pros and cons? Please feel free to educate me. P.S. They even smell the same !

you should never mix sythetic and regular, that is bad news, use one or the other and do not alternate between the two at oil changes, pick one or the other and stick with it for the best results

Thanks. That means I have to find out what I have inside my engine right now...which I don't ! Regular or Synthetic? To add to the confusion, the manual suggests that we stick with "Honda Motor Oil as long as we own" our Honda...whatever that "Honda Motor Oil" is ?
FYI mine is new MY2002 model with just over 2050 miles on it and my oil reading is at 2 to 3 notches up from Low 1st thing in the morning.
Thanks in advance. Help me solve this oil mystery before I blow my motor or something .

Airsport is right, you have regular now, only Merceded and BMW and a few others use sythetic to start, so just pick one and go with it, good luck

Why not?...Castrol does. Have you ever heard of Syntec Blend? It is a mix of regular and synthetic oils at about 75/25% (more conventional than synthetic, of course). They are all API approved and can be mixed without problems. It is said that you should not mix different brands together, however.
