R.I.P. BaT
Last month just for fun I entered my S2000 in the Meadowdale Raceway car show outside of Chicago. Most of the people who stopped to look were in their 40s or younger. The people my age-mid 60s- seemed to look more at the American muscle. The exception we’re the British car owners. They are in my age bracket (I used to have TR4s in college days myself) and know and respect the S2000. Mostly the British car owners comment it would be nice to drive around in a fun sports car without a trunk full of tools and parts. Frankly, that’s why I bought the S2000 seven years ago-I’m working and want the small nimble roadster experience without having to fix it every weekend.
I think that as the 30-40 year olds become more affluent it’s only natural they will pay whatever for the cars they admired as teenagers but couldn’t afford. And as my generation ages out there will be a glut of American muscle and British cars ripe for the picking.

Got tired of all this and bought a Trans Am (nice car). Had kids, sports car days were over. I kept telling myself
that one day someone will come out with a decent roadster that's reliable and have decent power. Enter the
Honda S2000. Got the kids out of college. Bought new in 04 and never looked back. Had it for 18 yrs its not
going anywhere.

This...started out with MGs and Triumphs the MGs were junk, the Triumphs were a little better but not by much.

My gateway into the S2000 was somewhat different. Never owned a British roadster, which is a good thing since I'm not mechanically inclined. In the mid-90s I bought a slightly used Integra GSR and fell in love with that engine. I was in my mid 30s, and before that I'd never really considered Japanese cars as anything other than econoboxes. The GSR changed my mind. When the S2000 came out, I bought one and absolutely loved it. It became my go to for track days and weekend jaunts.
I sold it after 2-3 driving seasons just because that's what I did back then. Had various Porsche, Mercedes, Lotus, BMW afterwards but I never forgot that S2000. When I saw how insanely underpriced they were in the used market maybe 5 years ago, I jumped back in with both feet.
Still one of the most under appreciated cars in America, as far as I'm concerned. Cutting edge technology, bulletproof reliability, lively handling, understated elegant styling, and that fantastic 4 banger under the hood. One of the 3 greatest cars ever produced by the great Honda Motor Company. That's saying a lot.

I love the BaT effect, despite me also worrying about parts costs going up.
I love it for a few reasons
- Honda may be more inclined to make another using a similar recipe
- Honda may rerelease parts that went out of stock (I.e. hardtop, short blocks)
- The increased popularity will keep more of these on the road so we will continue to spot them. There used to be a time when I would see this daily or at least multiple times weekly, definitely not the case in the Northeast anymore.
I will always have my memories of owning my AP1 and hanging out with the S2000 community. It would be great to continue seeing this in the future. For every S2000 that appears on BaT, we have to remember there are countless others autocrossing, tracking, or just introducing them to the community through a c&c type of event all during the same weekend,

Smart guy. If I had FU money and space, I'd buy every mint low mileage S2000 I can and store them for 20 years. Price today isn't prohibitive, they're just getting started.
Great example is the 1981 Scirocco that sold for $42k the other day, that is an outlier and most definitely not the new normal.
When I saw this sale - https://bringatrailer.com/listing/19...eclipse-gsx-7/ - it blew my mind. Absurd.
