I haven't read all the posts so if I'm covering ground already covered forgive me. I'm a Deputy Public Defender in Reno, NV, I drive a Caterham Super Seven and have been stopped speeding on several occasions. Once by a cop saying I was doing more than I was ( Iwas speeding but not as much as he said). I also got stopped for running a red light in my Aerostar, which I did NOT do. You should definitely take the case to trial but I don't recommend using an attorney unless he has LOTS of experience with the prosecutors you will be facing. Otherwise you can do as well yourself. Unless you get a really liberal judge (and there aren't any around here) the judge has to go with the cop, he has to, they "uphold law and order". He may cut you some slack, as has been suggested, but your chances of a dismisal are very slim. However, you can benefit from asking for a trial by getting the charges reduced by the prosecutor when you show up immediately before the trial, in most courts there is a substantil trial calendar and not enough time to try all the cases if they all still wanted to go to trial so the DA/ CityAttorney/ County Attorney will offer a deal to get a Plea. Ther's no doubt in my mind that you were profiled, I see it ALL the time with my clients. Good luck.

How about trying to get a black judge the race card MIGHT WORK WONDERS!! Other than that I say go for it.. cop shouldn't discriminate whatever race/color/ethnic background u got. You have the right to be driving the car like any of us....

I'm with you in spirit bro...( looks like we all are).

Lessons learned.

1) NEVER admit to speeding. If he writes this in the notes you are a goner.

2) ALWAYS get a good lawyer....mine is just the best. Lots of money, but he never loses.

3) NEVER try to fight the ticket without a Lawyer. At best, you might get a reduced fine, but 95% of the time you lose. His word against yours ...you lose.

PEACE!

If you admit you were doing 72 then pulling you over is not racial profiling. I do not know about the other. I am not saying some blacks have not been pulled over without good cause but I am very observant and I drive a lot, It has been my experience that blacks as a whole have a much higher moving violation , crime and arrest rate. The police know this too. You can not tell me that good cops pull over blacks routinely without a good reason.

Seitek, I don't believe we've met face-to-face yet, you should stop in to one of the S2000 Atlanta meets sometime. Sorry to hear that you were singled out.

CRITTER, YOU MAY BE MISSING THE POINT!

He had every right to pull him over because he was speeding!
Now I do not know about charging him with going faster than they both agreed on just like I said in my last post.

There are good reasons why black males are < 7% of the national poulation but yet represent 60-75% of the prison population, not because all white men are trying to charge them with things they are not guilty of, although that does happen and I feel very sorry for those exceptions.
Do your homework and look at the studies that have been done by very educated people that indicate over and over what we already know about the different races. For someone to say that a person discriminates just by color and not by actions is very shallow. Do you think blacks have a hard time getting cabs to pick them up in New York is because they are black? Of course not , their money is green too , they do not pick them up for something " Factual" like they do not tip very well or not at all.
Blacks as a race have made their own reputation 97% of the time.

I'm getting it fine Rick. Youre justifying why it's okay to judge a book by it's cover. Please tell me your trolling -- cause I thought the DixieCrat party was dead.

1) People get pulled over all the time for speeding. Yes. No argument. What your saying is that if he got pulled over for doing the flow of traffic, even if that was FASTER than 72, that's tough. Sietek is a black male in a fast looking car and should know better. Please. The man got charged with 100+ MPH and youre saying that even if it's not his fault, it's the fault of the other alleged 97% who look like him

2) Even if youre right, your wrong. Why? Youre using the wrong yardstick. You could say the same thing about blacks being most of the prison population regardless of the amount of crime! You can't say black people tend to be criminals by looking at prison demographics. You have to look at the demographics of black people as a population.

The overwhelming amount of crimes are committed by a very small group of a population at large. Color makes no difference. Even if all crimes were committed by young black males, the number of black people put in prison wouldn't even be anywhere near half of the black population. Youre blaming the majority for the actions of a small criminal minority, and only because their criminal minority arguably is bigger than anyone else's. Note that to do all this, you had to be paying attention to whom "us" and all of the various "them" are in the first place!

3) The Japanese who were around in WW II want to have a word with you about this concept.

4) Some people say this about Arab men too since the hijackings. Hey, It's a trend, we can react to it, right?!

5) If it's okay to blame black people because of the prison population, then it's okay to start lumping you in with the other white dudes with axes to grind...you know like Tim McVeigh, David Koresh, Aldrich Ames, Johnathan Pollard, Ted Kacynski, and Robert Hanssen. . We don't. We know better than to do that. Lucky for you not everyone agrees they way you think, eh?

6) You took the pledge in school. It says "Liberty and Justice for All". So now I get to say something I've always wanted to say to someone who expoused this point of view:

If you don't like it, you can always leave.

My last $.02 on the subject.
