Racing Seats? Rollbar?
Two questions for the price of one entry...
1) I've heard from a friend with a Porsche that racing seats can give 2-3 inches back on headroom (I'm 6'5" so that's meaningful)... is this true for the S2000? what seats would you recommend? full cost w/ installation to expect?
2) does the S2000 have a rollbar that would meet the requirements of tracks that offer performance driving courses or would a supplementary rollbar have to be installed?
fyi - new license plates arrived: "i-mode" - bonus points for those that can decode the reference... (hint: look to the home country of Honda for the answer...)

Mugen seats...they will give you more room I'm pretty sure.

So this would be 2.75 inches lower..sounds good for you.

Also, the hip point (sitting position) is located approximately 70 mm lower than normal to give a direct driving feel
Seat height: there are lots of aftermarket seats, but they're pretty expensive. You can get an inch or more out of the stock seat this way:

Roll protection: Different tracks and organizations have different requirements. Since I don't plan to "formally" race my car, I found the "Bitterbar" to be a good solution for us tall guys:

Sparco or Recaro seats combined with the Taitec slider kit will give you about as much drop as the Mugen set for a lot less money (about $700-900 per side compared to $1250). Only some of the Sparco and Recaro seats will fit in the narrow S2000 cockpit, so be careful when buying. Our sponsors Bulletproof Automotive and Science of Speed can steer you in the right direction.
IMO, the Bitterbar is the best way to go for increased rollover clearance. There are a few minor downsides to it (heavier, decreased space for spare tire, replacement of hoop trim) but it's a higher, substantive roll structure.

twohoos did a great job summarizing the answers!
I plan to do the stock seat lowering alteration this winter because I agree, I sit too high in the car. I suspect I'm going to try and just lower the back of the seat bottom first and see if that will be enough, because I would like my thighs to have a bit more support and with the angle of the seat bottom as it is now my lower thighs are not in contact with the seat at all.
The one thing I will say in addition to twohoos is the fact that if you go with a rollbar addition, do not just look at the Bitterman! There are other options out there. I'm not implying the Bitterman is bad, I'm just saying it is not the correct solution for all people. I have a custom bar in progress right now. My objective was to get higher than the stock hoops and not remove them. I did not want to add a roll bar by tearing apart the beautiful interior of my 30 thousand-dollar car. My bar will also NOT BE the correct solution for all people because to get what I want I need to run the vertical bars down behind the seats and that will limit the seat travel, but I'm only 5'11" and most of my height is in my torso so I never have the seats back all the way any way. And yes, believe me, once my bar is done and it is a month or more away, I will post pics as well as the tube bender extraordinary who created it.
