Default radar detector location

Most of the pictures on here that I have seen show the r/d mounted sitting on the dash. I like this location because it doesn't restrict my view. Does this location allow the r/d to pick-up rear signals also? I know that a high location near the rearview mirror is probably better, but if the lower spot is almost as good I will accept the "small" reduction in range. Any thoughts, opinions, or experience would be helpful.

I have my V-1 mounted low and the rear detection works fine. BTW, this belongs in the Electronics forum. Most people will ignore it here

Here's Rick's solution, with the detector mounted above the storage compartment. Looks like the ideal placement to me. http://www.s2000online.com/forums/showthre...tector+mounting BTW, if you do a search for detector mounting, I'm sure you'll find the answer you're looking for.
