Default Rag Top conversion

Hello everyone,

I have a 2001 S2K and I wanted to convert my rag top to the glass window version.

I notice I can purchase the 2002+ S2K convertable rag top for under $950.

My question is it possible to do the swap?

If yes, will it be bolt-on or will modifications be needed?

Thank guys!

Recently did mine. Replaced the roof and frame.

Its a straight swap. Not mods required. Done between me and a friend. Its not hard, just time consuming. You will need to take out all the interior trim from behind the seats back. Including the roll bars, secret compartment, plactic trim behind the seats. The only differance between the 2 is the MY02 roof has two belts either side. The belts connect the back bar of the roof. If you dont put these on the roof sits on the roll bars.

Feel free to PM me. I'm soon to post the whole conversion on the UK forum. In total between 2 people its about a 6 hour job including stopping for the odd cup of tea!

You can buy an aftermarket Robins Auto top (which comes with everything you need including some instructions) which is of very good quality. It will only cost you around 500 shipped from ebay. Make sure its a Robins auto top. Anyway, if your not planning on buying the whole frame then the there will need to be modification made to the frame. just some simple drilling/riviting. Its really not as hard as it seems. It is really a lot quicker with 2 people, I did it by myself and it took my around I'd say 13 hours. When I helped another board memeber do his, it really didnt take so long. Taking it off is easy, putting it back on is a bit harder, make sure to put rags in those little holes so the nuts dont fall in there. and use zip lock bags and duck-tape them to the parts they came off of as to not lose track of what nut goes where.

Why would anyone want the hassle of a canvas top?

I just think that the upkeep on a canvas top would be more than a vinyl top with no benefit that I can see. The vinyl top looks and feels like fabric.
