Nope, we head out on vacation for three weeks tomorrow morning at about 9AM or so. We're generally following I-90 west til we eventually get to Yellowstone, then we'll decide whether to turn left or right, and take side roads back home. No itinerary or agenda, no motel/hotel reservations, just drive and if something interests us we'll stop and see it. Pot luck on where to stay, we've done this sort of thing before, we love to explore and it's produced some real funny stories and some wonderful memories.

I'm not too interested in going to the Chicagoland track. It's a cookie-cutter mile-and-a-half tri-oval, boring as all hell, and the ONLY way to get tickets is to buy their package deal consisting of the Busch and Cup races and the ARCA/IRL weekend later in the year. The cheapest ticket for that is...

$300!!!!!!!!!

I've been to the drag strip there before and it's a wonderful facility, I plan to go again... but the NA$CAR race weekend there is for the birds as far as I'm concerned. I'd rather stay home and watch that one on the T & V.

Now if you were talkking about Bristol, or Richmond, or Daytona/'dega... I'd be there in a heartbeat, even for that kind of $$$.

I might be on once in a while while we're gone, I'll try to check in and give you all an idea how the weather and stuff is on our trip.

Tom

I live in Foothill Ranch which is about 25 minutes from Laguna Beach (it's a bit warmer at the house).

I work in Irvine which is about 10 minutes away from Newport Beach (nice cool breeze).

It's 11:32a.m. - 77 degrees - I think for lunch I'm going to go to the beach!

We sort of won. More later. After we unpack and have dinner. We haven't eaten all day. We're having a late dinner now.

Las Vegas was great. Lots of fun.

The Weather (this is a weather thread)
Hot, hot, hot. 115*F during the day 88* F at night. Sunny, not a cloud in the sky. When we went to the Red Rock Canyon it was 125.5*F. Dry heat, but hot.

The Hotel
Stayed in New York, New York. Nice hotel. Smaller than the gigantic ones. Fun place, nice place. Visited the others as well. All the hotels on the Strip are nice.

The Car
Rented a Chrysler Sebring convertible. What a piece of junk. One day the airbag light came on and stayed on for the day. Next day it went off. One day the seat back latch sprung. Only nice part of the car was cruising at night with the top down. Way too hot for E.W.A. and the kids to take the top down during the day. Didn't see even one S.

The Entertainment
Went to Cirque D'Soleil. Great show. One of the best I have seen in a long time. E.W.A. and I enjoyed it and the kids enjoyed it. I'd recommend it. We also went to the "Auto Collection" at the Imperial Palace. Because we are AAA members we got in for free. Nice cars. AC Cobras, Shelby Cobras, Porsche 356a & c among others. Good show, especially for free. Did many other things. Lots of entertainment.

Grand Canyon
Took a motorcoach tour. Helicoptered into the Canyon and took a pontoon boat a little way down the Colorado. Helicoptered back up. Great tour, but very expensive. Well worth the money though as all four of us were very excited by it. Also saw Hoover Dam, wow! And the Red Rock Canyon, another wow!

The Gambling.
On our second evening we gave the kids some money to play in the arcade and E.W.A. and I went to the casino. We are not really big time gamblers. E.W.A. sat down at the Blackjack table. She picked one that uses only one deck and a $5 minimum. With hands trembling, she put a $20 on the table. Five or six hands later she was broke. On the way to the roulette tables we passed a table playing "War". We had never seen this in a casino before so we had to try. E.W.A. invested another $20 and was quickly wiped out. On to the roulette. I love roulette. Not because I win much, but because it's all numbers. Anyway, I sat down and got $40 worth of chips at a $10 minimum table. I put $1 on each of the numbers that 4 gave me and $1 on each of the numbers that Vicki gave me. To round it out I put $1 on 4 (because thats part of his name) and $1 on 5 because it comes after 4. On the first round we lost. On the second round we hit one of 4's numbers and collected $36. Unfortunately that wasn't enough to buy toasters for everyone in this thread so I continued playing the same numbers. Two spins later one of Vicki's numbers came up. Still not enough for the toasters so I continued. Three hands later I was broke. After that we played $20 in the slots and lost all $20. That was the gambling for the week.
Sorry, no toasters, it's up to 4 again.

We had a great vacation, and I'm glad to be home. This is the only thread I've looked at so far. I've missed participating all week. Tomorrow I post a few pictures of the Auto Collection and Los Vegas.

It's good to be home. (Much cooler too)

Rob -

I've seen and done everything you've just experienced (especially the losing stuff you're wife went through) and it sounds like you had a very productive week. I love N.Y. N.Y. - great pizza, nice clubs, loose BJ Tables. BTW, a week in Vegas is too long, don't you think? My ass can't stand more than three days there! Better yet, my pocket book can't stand more than three days there. I'm sure you're all exhausted and you won't see this till tomorrow, but it's nice to see you're home safe and nothing "too bad" happened. I still don't believe you regarding the "we didn't win, boo hoo!" garbage. I think you won and you don't want to share it with us!

Actually, you're probably still on pst time, aren't you? Welcome to my world!

Rob - next time you'll have to take some of the Vegas time and use it to visit So Cal. You, E.W.A and the kid can stay with the wife and I in our 1 BDR APT...
