I'm sorry to hear about your mishap. How many miles were on the tread? Are your tires the stock SO-2 or some other tire?

SO-2 in the front and SO-3 in the back?

That might have contributed. The SO-3 is supposed to be better in the rain than the SO-2, I believe, but I wouldn't mix and match myself.

Uh, no it doesn't. The stock tires are S02 all the way around.

Maybe you should provide more info about your setup. Are both front and back the stock 16" wheels, or do you have something else installed? What about a custom suspension? What size are the S03s? 225 or 245? I'm no expert on this, but I would not consider mixing two different kinds of tires on the car at the same time.

The S03 is vastly superior in the rain, but if you put a 225 S03 in the rear - you're loosing size back there. But i really think even with the loss of stagger, that in the wet he'd have been more likely to have experienced an understeer condition with the match he claims. I really think that that mismatch would bear ugly effects on the rear of the car in hard dry cornering.

Just my opinion.

Since he's got an 01 but his S2k age is new, I'm guessing that he bought the car used - and the previous owner used up the rear S02's and replaced with S03's hoping to do the fronts when they went.

Hey Rorick you got some nice angel eyes on you M3. That suck about your rear going that way Jay Yo. I tend to keep it super slow when wet if anything just avoid driving it.
