Default Rant about trunk locking the doors

One of the lamest "features" I have found on our cars is this: when you shut the trunk, it automatically locks the front doors. I'm not exactly sure what triggers this because it doesn't happen all the time, but it's often enough to cause me to .

Often I would think, "some day, this stupid feature is going to cause me a big problem."

Well that day was today. I frequently throw my purse in the trunk. I stopped by the store on my way to work, was putting the few groceries I bought in the trunk, talking on the phone, stuck my keys back into my purse and closed the trunk.

I know, I know, I wasn't paying attention. But I had already pushed the UNLOCK button on my remote before I opened the trunk. It should STAY UNLOCKED!! Of course, the minute I shut the trunk, I knew what had happened - and of course the doors locked themselves, and the trunk was locked and closed - with keys inside.

Thank God for AAA, they were there in 10 minutes.

Does anyone know a way to disable this stupid feature??

If you press unlock (even if the doors are already unlocked) on the remote and don't open one of the doors in about 30 seconds, the doors will lock themselves. It doesn't have anything with you closing the trunk.

I don't like this feature either. I just make sure if I'm not in the car, the keys are in my pocket.

Ditto!

It doesn't have anything to do with the trunk. The doors lock and trunk release are working separately. If you unlock the doors but never open it, it'll lock it self in 30 second.

I lock my self out once because I lay my keys in the trunk, doing some stuff with all the junks in there, and then I just shut it!

Here's the purpose behind it. Say you get out of your car, lock the doors, and as you put your keys into your pocket/purse, the unlock button is accidentally pressed. Without this feature, the car would be unlocked and vulnverable to anybody who walks by testing door handles. So the car is configured to lock itself 30 seconds after an unlock unless a door is opened.

So far as I know, there's nothing in this that has to do with the trunk. If it turns out that it's not possible to disable the 30 second re-lock feature, you'll have to get into the habit of actually opening a door when you unlock the car in order to keep it unlocked.

I hope you are a female owner if you locked your purse in the trunk.

I believe all Hondas that have remote access do this. I know my CRV and Accord do.

It is a saftey feature so that if you accidently unlock the doors with the remote they will relock automatically. I know that I have accidently armed my alarm when something in my pocket pushed the button.

I've never had the doors lock after closing the trunk. I just tried this on my car to confirm this.

Like everyone else described, if you don't open a door within about 30 seconds of hitting the unlock button on the remote, the doors automatically relock. This has nothing to do with the trunk.
