What sort of big headlines are you expecting to see about the S?
S2000: About the same as last year
S2000: About the same as last year
If honda keeps their trend going the Miata will be the better of the two within 5 years.
S2000: Getting worse every year!
geeze..sorry guys- i ment the hype for the miata and lack of the same for honda sucks...the car is ok..i drove the one the first year they came out and also a recent mazdaspeed version..so i'm not blowing smoke here...and as far as mazda reinventing the roadster i'm not so sure that alfa or lotus ever uninvented it.
just as a reference point i recently purchased a 308 ferrari for 1/2 the price of a new miata...no rust and new timing belts.
..sure it's used... but a lot of car for the $
lots of cams, gears and no airbags-what more could you ask from a sports car??
and yes i have a s2000 as well..i'll be a proud 5-fear owner early nov.

Don't get me wrong, I love the S2000, but I don't consider myself a fanatic about it.
Like it or not, if the Miata, or something like it, didn't come along, it's likely that the S2000 probably wouldn't exist either. Mazda did us a big favor almost 20 years ago.
The Miata has gone through, what, 4 or 5 major revisions now? Each one better than the other. They've done it again this year and their getting press for it. Honda has done essentially one major (and major may be stretching it a bit) revision on the S2000 and that came in '04. They changed some of the dynamics of the car but they really didn't change the overall performance. For '06, all they've done is add a bit of technology that's already on the shelf. It makes the car safer, hopefully, to push toward the extremes but it does nothing for the all out performance of the car. IE: It's not ultimately any faster.
The way I normally drive my car, I'm not extracting any more performance out of it than I could be getting from the Miata. While VTEC is loads of fun, it's just not practical to use it to any degree without seriously breaking the law. I learned to drive a manual transmission in a '67 MG Midget. I could rap that car out all day long and not break the speed limits. It was loads of fun anyway!
There's something to be said for that, but I wouldn't trade my S2000 for anything!

i dont think we existed because of the miata, its the other way around. when did honda come out with their roadster? i believe s800 something like that..technically, i truely believe that honda did something for them.
Those old British sports cars had been off the market for a number of years and Mazda tapped into a subconcious want or need and the sales shot to the moon. No other company had the guts to but a small, 2-seat convertible that was totally off the practicality scale on the market. I'll still maintain that if Mazda, or someone else, hadn't done that in the late 80's, it's very likely that the S2000 wouldn't exist either. I could be wrong about that, but I really don't think so.

if anyone has the chance, look up the relationship between mr. honda , his advanced design group and lotus in the '60s....i suspect the s2000 has been in a drawing file since then with little update needed....[all except the chapman struts]..also see lotus elite sI,sII...
