First off on the membership to S2KI: It's 20 bucks.....think about how much money you've thrown into your car. It's a membership due, just like anything else you join. As far as the site owners getting fat off of it....it costs a lot of money to keep this site going. Part of your $20 goes to your personal message center that holds fountains of emails that you save. It also allows you to sell in the For Sale forum, which if you've ever sold on Ebay, it's much more expensive. Plus in the S2KI For Sale forum, you have the attention of 75% of the S2000 world wide community at your fingertips looking at parts for there car. Ebay can't get you that. It costs you a whole $1.67 a month. This is the cheapest organization I've ever been involved in....and I can't tell you how many thousands of dollars in parts I've sold on S2KI. Ebay is getting fat, not S2KI. Again, you drive a 30 thousand dollar car with 75 thousand in parts....it's 20 bucks

As to a previous post up above: I agree with you....sometimes when a member leaves, via he sold his S2000 or for whatever reason...he cleans up his picture hosting site and when you search for something in the Gallery...the pictures are gone. So we have this thread that you've searched for, that takes you back 5 years and the pictures are gone. To me at least, this happens very often.

I too always try to search for it first, but with 10 years of information, a lot of the pictures are gone, and the information has become skewed. The search function is great, but it's not always your friend.

To answer the comment about posting a stock S2000 or posting anything for that matter....I believe, that is an open invitation for discussion. If someone has a problem with another member telling them that their car needs this or that....then they shouldn't post it to begin with. There is no way that my S2000 will appeal to everyone here on S2KI....and I don't care. How many members gave me flack for my bright green valve cover....so what....apparently another member thought it was so cool, that he bought it from me. If you are proud of your ride and wish to share it, then by all means, share away. Please be open to all the love and the hate it will bring though.....if you can't handle that, then don't post it.

I also just remembered that your membership gets you discounts on parts here on S2KI. Many members I know have taken advantage of that.

Salty - Of course a portion goes to keeping the site running but hosting a website, even one of this size, isn't that expensive and as Cthree said himself a while back after I asked how much revenue S2ki generates: "enough to keep me interested."

The other S2000 site is a non-profit organization. It gets less attention and most people here (myself included until a little while ago) didn't even know it exists.

That said, I do like S2ki and will continue coming here, but I think I'll just reduce to a regular membership if anything at all.

i think that its great when someone revives an old thread to ask a question that was generally covered by that thread.....the only problem is it always get the same reply....."way to bring up a __X__ year old thread"
so whats the point of searching and posting a question in the thread that is similar? your gonna get the same smart a@s remarks.

mainly the reason i havent posted a thread exception for an introduction because of all the wise a$$ comments on this site....i just do all my research myself... occasionally ill find a member who has what im looking for and if he/she is nice enough to help me out then im good (via pm). More often than not i come up with no answers to my questions using the search function so whenever i see something of value i just bookmark it... i have about 200 threads bookmarked and organized into different sections because I will never be able to find them again. Also, i agree with the OP in that the comments dont help at all

IBTL doesn't usually get posted except in relatively useless threads or those that have gone astray that they really are in danger of being locked.

Suggestions to do a search are generally only given when the question is one that obviously could be easily answered with a search. I do this from time to time but try to always include at least one helpful link as well.

So what's the matter? Your mouse scroll wheel broken or something? Talk about much ado over nothing.

I do agree 100% about the issue with people talking down the ads in the for sale thread. Unless the op is a known scammer or the ad contains outright misinformation people should just get over themselves and avoid posting negative comments about the product or price.

The S2KI diversity in everything from automotive experience, age, education, income, culture, etc. is perhaps its greatest strength. If we all thought the same about all the topics, then there would be no exchange of information, no shared experiences, and no learning. I think the more differences we have the better we'll all be for it. I do, however, think that civility should be a requirement. I mean, rip an idea or blatant BS to pieces but not the person who shared it regardless if it's a newbie, someone from another country, or someone who prefers to telegraph their messages rather than compose a grammatical masterpiece.

Relative to other sites, this is a good one. I was an S2KI Guest for a year before I recently decided to become a Member. There have been times that I just read threads to learn more about a particular aspect of our cars. Other times, I had a fun reading about driving experiences, skills, and backgrounds. I'd like to meet many of the members, but because they live great distances away I probably never will. Still, we all share a common bond that should be celebrated rather than belittled.

There is a good reason why it is not like that. And that's why I can reply to your post, and reply again if I want to, paying nothing.

The only time I feel one word HTML responses to post may be used is in the gallery, or in some type of image thread. IBTL is stupid and just a poor excuse to bump up your PPD.

I don't like when people instigate, act ignorant, or make people feel not comfortable to post. It does happen alot, but its hard to control and scold everyone that does it.

Search is there, people don't use it. Repetition is the key to knowledge, so its not a bad thing to repeat information.

As for the membership, everyone on here should have it. s2ki for me is now apart of my life, its more than an online community anymore. If anything its a social group in which I look forward to spending time on.

1. The information in the archives has saved me more than $20 in repair bills / labor charges / worthless equipment. So I'll continue to pay for membership.

2. I like to help people.

3. I don't like entitled people. If you're going to ask for help, IMHO, say please and thank you.

4. IMHO, we get some conflicts between "grumpy" old members and "e-thugging" new guests because of #2 and #3. I want to help, but feel conflicted when an entitled young buck demands my time.

5. I think due to the idiosyncrasies of the internet, people think that everyone is like them. This can create problems when the 20-year old "new guest" starts getting all tough with the 50-year old that in real life might be his next college professor or father's oncologist.

Respect, people. It's the name of the game.
