It is not an occasional rattle, otherwise i would keep my mouth shut. It is ever other second i hear a squeek from it, and the even more annoying thing is that it DOESN'T happen over bumps or acceleration, it is totally random.
If it's "every other second" it should be quite a simple fix. Most of the rattles/squeaks that happen constantly are pretty major things that can be rectified.

here are some suggestions:

1) Order the hardtop strikers ($60). Even if you don't have a hardtop, these replacement strikers have additional rubber inserts in them to eliminate a lot of squeaks. I went this method personally and they eliminated 99% of the squeaks in my car. Install is easy... takes about 10 minutes.

2) Get some shin-etsu grease ($10). Apply this to all of the rubber seals. If any of the rubber seals get too dry, they tend to make noise.

3) Check the various interior plastic panels and make sure that they've all been secured properly, make sure any bolts and screws are firmly seated.

To be honest, i just paid 36k for this car, i am not going to waste my precious time doing this crap, i'll have the dealer pay and do it.

I keep hearing a squeeking sound coming from the right hand side of the convertible top when the roof is up. It seems to be coming from the middle bar above your head amd where the roof is attached to it, is there anything i can do about it - irt is beginning to REALLY piss me off

You're going to waste more of your precious time by taking it to the dealer and having them spend a day to say "sorry, we couldn't find anything wrong"

The stuff I'm suggesting might take a half hour of your time.

Last time I took my car to the dealer for something like this, I had to drive there (15 minutes), get them to give me a ride to work (20 minutes another direction), a ride back (20 minutes), wait at the dealer to talk to the technician about what he did (20 minutes), and then another (15) minutes to drive home.

In total it cost me 1h 30m of my time to have nothing solved.

...sounds like whining and negetivity over a few squeaks & rattles...leading to complaining based on the amount of money spent and unrealistic expectations... yada yada...

basically the amount of time spent bitching here would have been adequate to apply some of the suggestions to the car & perhaps find and fix the squeaks and rattles that seem so annoying... for some of us but obviously not all ...doing maintainance and minor fixes is more of a pleasant use of our time than an infringement... the time we save doing things ourselves versus having to go through the dealer process permits us time to post & contribute to this community...

good luck with your situation...it's only a rattle/squeak...try not to let that ruin your enjoyment of the total car....

one other thingy...imagine the frustration of those early 7 series owners ...those folks were paying 80 large for their constant trips to the dealers to fix serious bugs in those bimmers....
