Default rattling behind driver's left shoulder with the top up?????

I'm sorry if this has been discussed before, the search function isn't working. Anybody have this problem with the rattling. It sounds like it's coming directly behind my left shoulder while driving; only when the top is up. I just heard it this morning on my way to work, I looked backed there and couldn't figure out what it may be. Any help guys?

I know the obvious solution is to drive with my top down and forget the rattle!

I've had the same problem. I noticed that if I park, put the top down and then put it back up again the rattle goes away. Another possible area is the seat. Sometime it make funny noises in the corner or while I'm braking hard. It's always coming from the left side. I still haven't figure out why the seat's making noise yet.

So far posters here have an '02. Are the 02s pre-wired for the hardtop? Maybe it's the hardtop defroster wiring harness that's got more slack or something when the top's up.

I have this, it sounds like a leather rub. I think the lower bolster rubs against the plastic panel. Could be we don't notice it with the top down because outside noise drowns it out.

I drive an 02 as well, and have the exact same freakin problem. The sound is coming from the top. Not only this, but ANOTHER one started that sounds like it is behind the seat. At 5,000 miles I have two rattles, not very happy about it.

Do you have the drivers seat all the way back/leaning all the way back?

YES. I push the seat the whole way back, then move it forward to the first notch. Then I do the same thing with the seatback. There is some space between the seat and the interior panel, yet the lower side bolsters are closest. I think when I sit in the seat these bolsters rub.
