I've heard of clutch problems with the S2K, so I'm not sure what is normal/abnormal for this car since I'm a new owner. I've driven stick all my life, but I'm just not sure what to look for in the S2K.

Also, I've noticed that the shifter is "knotchy, noisy and clunky" at slow speeds and low RPM shifts, but is smooth like butter when shifting at higher RPM's and faster speeds. Is that fairly normal?

Thanks!
My '02 is the same way. High RPM shifts (above 5.5k) engage very smoothly, but low RPM shifts (around 4k) don't.

My clutch also produces a sort of buzzing sensation at the very top of its travel. This was the case with both my original clutch and the new one I just got put in. I have no clue what it is and have never noticed it on any other manual transmission cars.

its the noisy timing chain you're hearing at idle, this engine is by no means a "smooth" one. you'll hear everything.

if you start hearing some very loud tapping noises from the engine head, then you probably need a valve adjustment.

Mine still makes this wierd rattling noise when accelerating at 3.5 to 4.5K RPMs. Just some sort of vibration. I'm guessing the heat shield, since it's coming from that general area - though there's no obvious signs of it.

The damn thing never does it at the dealer. It really bothers me.

Otherwise, it's a noisy car. Engine, exhaust noises, and minor interior squeaks I can put up with. Unexplained mechanical rattling noises is where I draw the line.

yes, all 00-03 s2000's made the noise. i only drove one 04 at my job and i can't say i noticed the noise, i probably just wasn't paying attention or the noise is just normal to my ears. can any 04 owners comment on this?
If you are talking about the "growly" noise it makes right at top of the pedal stroke then yes, the 04 definitely still makes it. For the first week I had the car I found myself hurrying my shifts to avoid hearing it so much. I figured it was pretty much normal but have never heard it in any other manual transmission car before either. I've gotten used to it (more or less) and resigned to the fact that it's just part of the noise resonating nature of the car...
