Default The Real Fluid Replacement Schedule

Hey gang,

I've tried to find this but cannot seem to find a definitive answer.
I've read the factory intervals for break in and followed them religiously but I wanted to get the real skinny on when I should replace the trans, diff and engine oil.

I've read that the diff and transmission must be changed far sooner than the factory says to remove all the metal shavings created by the break in process.

I'm right at 1045 miles so when should I swap the fluids?
Other threads have mentioned how great the LE-607 diff fluid is too. Especially for Atlanta where it's hot most of the year.

I want to set this car up for the best performance.

TIA!!!

Minsoo

I don't think you will find a definitive answer. I personally think that a lot responses you will get will be based on 'gut feelings' about when to change fluids, rather than facts.

IMO, Honda seems to know this car best, and the general theme I have found on this site is to follow the factory intervals. I wouldn't go any more frequently than the intervals for 'Severe Use' though <---- Again, just another opinion.

Here's what I do:

Motor oil every 3000 miles (mobil 1 5w30)

Tranny (honda mtf)/Diff Fluid (mobil 1 75w90) every 10,000 miles

Brake/clutch fluid every 10,000 (valvoline dot 4)

The car has been following this schedule and been running well for 85,000 miles

You may not have to change your oil at 3000 miles, I would however make sure you check it the level often. Also start being OCD about the dipstick being secure.

You're not late on your diff. 10k is what everyone has been recommending and your only at 9180.

I don't know what the dealer would charge but it would be expensive, compared to other shops. I would suggest going to another shop with a fair reputation. The only thing you have to watch out for with a shop is that they use the correct fluid. Otherwise it's a pretty simple job.

This is a 1 hour job btw.

personally... i do.

Engine Oil- 5000 Miles
Differential- Once a Year/15,000 Miles, whichever comes first.
Tranny- Once a Year/15,000 Miles, whichever comes first.
Brake Fluid- Once a Year/15,000 Miles, whichever comes first.

mine are more frequent because i do everything myself... so why not, to be safe. however, changing engine oil too often isn't such a good idea, especially with synthetics. they DO have a break in time... roughly 1000 miles depending on car/driver/habits/etc.
