Really bad smell
So a little while ago I posted that when I launch the car a really bad smell was coming from the car (smells like clutch to me). I was asking for suggestions and everyone basically said rev higher and make sure im not keeping my foot on the clutch.....so .....for the second time since I've owned the car I tried it one more time. I rev to about 6 (which was suggested by quite a few people) then let go of the clutch. I'll try to describe this the best I can....The engine roared to life and the car started moving forward slowly, but no squeeling from the tires or anything. the rpms slowly decreased even though I was holding the gas at the same point. It was like the tires might have been spinning and just starting to grip. BUT then a HORRIBLE smell comes pouring through the cab and I take my foot of the gas. The smell is pretty bad and sticks around for about 30 miles of driving after. I got out to feel the tires to see if they were warm and they were a lil warm but not much at all. probably from driving it to warm it up and not spinning.
NOW....If my foot isnt anywhere near the clutch and it smells like the clutch burning....am I really spinning the tires that hard or is it the clutch thats just slowly engaging or not catching or something else? HELP ME PLEASE
You are frying your clutch.
Try putting in top gear going up an incline in the road.
Watch the tach while gently increasing throttle- if the RPM's jump freely you need to arrange for a clutch funeral.
If not your cltuch may be at a point where it won't tolerate 6000 RPM launches-but nevertheless it's on it's way out, just a matter of time and driving style.

you may have glazed your clutch over already, and at this point, a successful launch may not be possible.
when you launch you need to flat out dump the clutch or pop the clutch. however, it sounds like you may have already damaged/glazed your clutch which at this point launching won't work.

Keep in mind that the tires on the S2000 are VERY sticky. As such it can be VERY difficult to launch the car and spin the tires. Unsuccessful attempts can:
A. Fry the clutch either completly or partially, shortening it's life significantly.
B. Break the differential. This will result in a nasty clunking or clicking noise from the rear.
C. Throw a half-shaft.
D. Any combo of the above.
NONE of the above would be covered under warranty. Any of the above performed at the dealer could run well over $1000.
Just something to keep in mind.

Me too. I don't care if its a Honda Civic or a 100K Porsche there's no way I'm gonna do stuff that will prematurely shorten its lifespan or cause parts to fail. All it took for me to decide to buy new instead of used was reading posts about 7K launches or that mpeg of the guy doing donuts in a parking lot.
