Really bad smell
I bought the car used and ive done two attempts like that...the second was my very last.....I appreciate everyones responses and I know it wasnt smart to do but I swear I was told by others to try it again...maybe they were just being asses. The clutch seems to be really good any other time so hopefully its strong enough for me to save up and replace it. It never slips any other time. Any recomendations for new clutches or just go back to honda and have them put a new OEM one in?
no....I know how to drive manual...I had 1 vw jetta and 2 civics all manual...The same thing happened the first time I tried it so I'm assuimng the previous owner had some fault in this. I don't want to brag or sound like a moron but im really confident I know how to launch a car. This is my first s2000 though. I'll admit I suck if thats the case, but I have a hard time believeing it right now.
7,000 rpm seems to work well in the 00-03.
But it's hell on the car. I did it a couple of times in my '01, then realized it's not worth it. I've never launched my '04.
The parts that break in this car from launching it are quite expensive to replace. The clutch should be the least of your concerns...

I talked to the dealership and they said they'll give me a "big break" on replacing the clutch since I just bought it. Anything else I should have them check/replace? I'm limited on cash, but I want this car as close to new as possible...Ive spent days detailing it and fixing what the last owner did to it. Not to mention quite a bit of money already just getting it back to "new" condition. I'm not going to launch it any more...I quit. If I want to beat on a car I'll borrow a friends civic or something.

even though I was holding the gas at the same point
(And no, I'm not going to tell you how to do it correctly. You might just go out and practice and still do it wrong and end up with more than just a blown clutch. I don't want that on my head.)
I hope I dont come across as a jerk here but uhhhh arent you supposed to have your foot on the gas if you want to move forward .....especially when launching? You dont have to tell me how to do it right because I give up on it, but I'm curious how that was the problem.....If I take my foot off the gas it would be the slowest launch ever...and if I mashed it harder...I wouldve done MORE damage to the clutch. It's not like ive never driven a sports car before....Ive driven my friends 95 diablo and my friends 03 viper.....didnt have a problem with those or my cheap cars. BUT REGARDLESS....sounds like I'll be needing a new clutch so now I just need someone to tell me if I should go OEM or some other company.

**THIS, is your biggest misconception and like I said, I'm not going contribute to you possibly breaking more in the future with a little information. Sometimes, a "little" information can be a very bad thing. This is most likely one of those times.
***Sadly, you have mistaken an S2000 for a Diablo and a Viper and one of your other "cheap" cars. An S2000 is NOTHING like any of those cars in terms of understanding how to launch it. ps. See my username? I used to own a Viper.
****You may or may not need a new clutch. Again, a bit of inexperience showing through here. You may have made that awful smell a couple of times but this doesn't mean that your clutch is totally gone. If the clutch has few miles on it, it might possibly be able to come back from this kind of abuse. Only time will tell. It is possible that with a little bit of prudent driving, the clutch can return to "normal" and you may be able to drive trouble free for some time.
There are many, many elements to successfully "launching" an S2000. It would seem that you only have grasped a couple of them. Again, this is not your friends' Diablo or Viper, nor is it one of your previous "cheap" cars, either. In fact, those cheap cars have characteristics that most likely made them far easier to launch than an S2000.
I get it. Well...I get that I dont get it. lol. Thank you though I really do respect everyones opinion on this site. I had no clue a clutch could kind of "repair itself" or go back to "normal" I was ready to cough up the cash. I will be a good boy with it for awhlie and see what happens. Thanks
I did so much shit to my 450hp 95 300zxTT lol. For 2-3 daysin a row when it was stock I would practice dumping the clutch time after time after time on some quiet roads. (Very hard to get a good launch int hat car even stock, all you get is wheel hop) but yeh so i took it in afew months after for the clutch job and flywheel was pretty messd up. Good car to learn and just do shit to. Crazy how you could do launch after launch for an hour straight and not really mess up the diff or clutch.
The s2000 is not a launching car for beginners nor a drag car, and I have never and will never launch the s2k. To much risk for parts to break
I'll still have fun jsut cruising
