Hi, just a quick survey here... buddy of mine is shopping around

$1500 above MSRP?!!

So if anyone bought a new 02 S2000 in LA/Orange County, CA
area please share the price you purchased for, color, trade-in's
and dealer ship you bought it from?

Thank you,

Get on an airplane, man. I am sure there are plenty to be had for MSRP within 1000 miles. A one way ticket would probably cost no more than $100 and the drive back will take care of those boring break-in miles.

Talk to Ben Carrington at Penske Honda out in Ontario.

Took delivery of an '02 three weeks ago at MSRP. No hassle, no problems.

For those that are new here I'll post my thoughts on MSRP once again ( sorry seasoned car shoppers). A dealer has three ways to make money, the least of which is on the actual car sale. The big bucks are in trade ins and finance. So unless your paying cash....any thoughts about MSRP are ABSOLUTELY meaningless! I grew up next to the owner of the largest Toyatoa dealer in the US (Longo Toyota, CA.) back in the 70's....and this is one lesson I learned well from Mr. Longo.

Thoughts on MSRP are most appreciated by those trying to make a new purchase. But repeating them does not necessarily mean them are more valid.

Yes, dealers make lots of money on trade-ins, finance as well as other things like warranties, service, etc. And as we all know, they will gladly rip you on all these things!

Each of these add-on services needs to be examined separately so that rational decisions can be made.

Paying an unnecessary $1500+ "dealer tax" is anything but meaningless. All is does is make you poorer.

Not if you walk in with a (loan) check in your hand.. and will
pay for the car w/o any forced options...(of course, then you
have to sell off the trade-in yourself... )
