Default Red paint on S2k a good chioce?

Hi guys.

I might be looking at a red '00 S2000 tomorrow. 28k miles for 22k. It sounds like a pretty good deal (right?) but the only bad thing is that it's red. Don't get me wrong. It looks gorgeous in red but as we all know red fades sooner than any other color. From experience I have a red 93 MR2 and it has suffered considerably from fading. I have to polish it every 2 months to get most of the gloss back. But then when you look at it under a light you can still see the permanent paint fade. The S2k will be stored in the garage most of the time however and I will only take it out mostly when it is dusk or at night.

What do you guys think? Should I wait for a white, blue silver, or yellow S2k? It seems like a good deal which is why I am strongly considering it. I am just worried that after 4 years, the paint is going to fade. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Here's a recent photo of my MY00 red - I use Zaino to protect the paint, but we get far less sun over here in blighty :

$22k seems a little pricey for a MY00 with almost 30k miles. I bought my MY01 GP white with hardtop 3 months ago for $24k and it only had 6400 miles on it. You could get a better deal...IMO

Well, I'd say go with the color that you like without consideration to color fade. I mean if you're going to be keeping this car for 10+ years, chances are you're one fussy owner and you're prolly keeping it for the long haul in which case any self-respecting fanatic would get his car repainted.

Red has always been a problematic color, and sensitive to chalking - advances have been made in part due to better engineered colorcoats, and the protection afforded by UV blockers in the clear.

But my experience with a 1994 300Z was I had to fight to keep it up.

If your car is garaged or covered a lot, and does not bake in hot sun all day, and you take A-1 care, your car could look as good as some of the reds here.

Price seems a little steep. I wouldn't let the color deter you IF that's the color you want. If not, hold out for the color you want. Esp. since the price isn't so low that you couldn't find another in the same range or lower.

Well, I decided against the red 00 s2k and decided to go with a 2002 model with 15k miles, metallic blue for 25k. That looks like a pretty good deal considering how much they go for brand new. Besides, MY02s in my area go for upper 20s from what I've seen advertised. I put a deposit on the car and I'll hopefully pick up the car next Saturday if my decision is final. I was checking the Edmunds car appraisal and it said it was a couple hundred dollars more than a "private party" appraisal price.
