Reduce Horsepower
I know this goes against everything everyone on here would ever want to do to their car but I need help here. I just got a new job and im driving almost 300 miles a week. i love my s2000!!! i dont want to get rid of it but i need it to get better mpg. does anyone know anyway i can reduce the hp and increase the mpg? is there a way i can keep the vtec from engaging or cut the amount of air intake into the engine? i want to get it down to at least 200 hp. its such a small engine and i wanna get the benefit of it by saving on gas money. i use the car for everyday driving and i never race it or anything so im not concerned about losing major power. also, what would happen if i ran it on regular gas instead of premium. is it just performance issues concerened or will it ruin my engine? someone please help me!!!
What kind of mpg are you getting. If I drive without hitting vtec I can get 30+mpg on the highway and 24-25 city.
About gas, From what I have read it is mixed issues or whether premium is better or not. With knock sensors researchers say it is a waste of money where as other say they hear pings. You can use mid-grade, 89 octane, with no problems.

You can keep vtec from engaging by keeping the revs under 6K......
Things like, exhaust and CAI often improve gas mileage while increasing HP. Reducing HP is not the answer. Tuning the car could net some better gas mileage.....
Don't use regular gas.....

control your right foot.
stay out of vtec.
Cheap gas will probably not help.
That 240 hp you speak of is only in high rpm vtec time. Lowering your horsepower will not necessarily make you use less gas when you are cruising at 3-5 thousand rpm's

Decreasing HP does not increase gas mileage. I get almost exactally the same mileage with my SC S2000 as I did before the supercharger.
If you want better gas mileage the best thing to do is lay off the gas pedal. Additionally, shift by 4000rpms, don't vtec, make sure you're air filter is clean, take out any unnessary weight, maybe add a testpipe, and drive with the top up all that should get you a few mpg but the S2000 will never get you really good gas mileage.

just go by a $300 old school civic and have that for your daily driver. Don't mess with the S, you won't get better gas mileage unless you swap the motor or gears. Never put anything in the tank other than premium unless you want pre-detonation and engine failure.
