Default In regards to test pipes and straight pipes, a couple of questions?

1)What is a test pipe and what does it do?
2) What will happen if I put a test pipe on a stock exaust?
-will I lose hp
-will I get a more aftermarket exaust type sound
3) If I removed the cats and replaced it with a straight pipe what would happen?
-would it sound good
-would I gain/lose hp
-would it hurt my engine
I want an aftermarket exaust sound but am doing the 04 covnersion next week and love the 04 exaust tips better than any other ones on the market right now. As for the straight pipe, I have noticed that a couple aftermarket sites sell them for our car.

here is a better idea, instead of having 20 threads asking different things put everything in one thread and get it all answered at once.

I don't have a problem with one question per thread. It keeps the topics sorted out and also helps when a future search is done. Sure, it would be an "economy" of words and space, however, having more than a few different questions in one post can be a bit too diversified.
My only "pet peeve" is that the title is descriptive and that the thread is in the correct forum, but then, I guess that's what the mods are for.

blue boy, the questions in this thread are the questions that i feel are related. As for searches, I spend my day reading previous threads. It is rare that I find my questions answered exactly as I wanted them answered.
As for searches. if everyone in S2k relied solely on searches then the site would be pretty dry huh! Having been up for so long and so many questions being asked and so many questions answered it is like finding the next big invention. Somebody has probabaly already done it, although it doesn't mean that it will hurt to ask.
As for the PRN intake, to be completely honest 379$$ for a "pretty" intake that wil provide non impacting hp is a waste of money for someone like me. I already have a very fast car that I've dumped enought $$$ into and now, regret! I just love the sound of the engine and wanted to amplify it.
When I say I am doing the conversion I bought EVERYTHING. FRT/REAR bumpers, headlights, tail lights with the install kit, bumper grill, 04 radio door, spoiler, side strakes, front chin spoiler, underpinnings to make the front bumper fit with the liner. And last but not least the 04 Oval Exaust tips. They are huge and better than any other aftermarket exaust I have seen for the S2000.
Unless it is easy to buy an aftermarket system and fit the stock 04 tips to the exaust then I wouldn't consider losing the look of the new tips I have bought. This car is for show and of course the factory go that it comes with it.
Sorry if I annoy people with my threads that seem to overlap, but I don't see it like that. I feel as though it gives the board a new thread for the day for new guys to read, or maybe it is because I am really a post whore. A victim of my own threads. Either way thanks for answering the questions.

eh, I say ask away..

Anyway, sounds like your conversion should go just fine as you have all the right stuff Personally the straight pipe thing is a waste for what you are doing, but go for if ya like

--regarding the tips issue-- Have you seen the Spugen oval/oval I mentioned? Or the Supersprint? If you ever decide to step up for a sweet sounding exhaust and you love the oval tips (as I do), then check em out.

Oval tips are a must with the '04 bumper. The round tips look very funky in the oval cutouts.
