[QUOTE=Kodokan_4,Oct 16 2005, 01:43 PM] XVIPER - What is your take on this?

Switched to Mobil 1 @ 3,000 miles. I was aware of Honda's 10k recommendation at the time.

Never burned any measureable amount of oil.

and it has NOTHING to do with some problem it will cause immediately. what it does is shorten engine life and cause problems later down the road.

As long as the engine lasts 60K, I am fine either way. Our Mercedes has 200K with mineral oil on the original engine.

If my motor wasn't broken in by 3,000 miles, it never will be. I redlined it probably a 1,000 times in that time frame. I'm not exaggerating either.

Anyway, wanted to use synthetic for the higher heat capabilities for track events, so I switched at the first oil change (3k).

I used mobil 1 synthetic in my Z06 (not to mention it comes out of the box that way) , but I was thinking about swapping to the same for my first oil change in my 05. What do you guys think? Does it really matter in the S2000? Or am I just wasting my money? Comments?

Thanks,

Jon
Some cars had synthetic oil as factory filled, Z06 and MB and BMW to name a fews. Honda recommends that you should not change to synthetic in the S until after 10k miles. Honda engineers know their engines better than most, I tend to trust them more than anybody else. I changed oil in my S three times: 3.7k miles, 7k miles and 10k miles, the first two with regular oils, the third with Mobil1. The S is at 12.8k miles now and no oil is used after first oil change, it used 1/2 quart of oil at the first oil change.

With synthetic oil, I plan to do oil change in the S once a year or 7.5 miles whichever is first, in my case it will be the time limit. My other cars, E430 and LS400, use synthetic oil without excessive oil consumption, these two cars go with 12k miles or 1 year schedule.

If you change to synthetic oil in the future, you may want to use either 5W40 or 0W40.

not to pick nits, but you know better than a honda engineer about how long our engines take to break in?? how many cars do you know of that have FRM cylinder walls?

I leased the car, so I don't really care to be honest. The fact I'm using decent oil and filter is better than most leasee's treat their car.
