I remember I went to see new Mazdaspeed Miata during my lunch hour, try to find out how much it cost. I didn't ask for any test drive because it was rainy day. But the salesman was trying so hard to let me test drive it. I told him, when I test drive the car, I always drive to the max and I'm afraid I am going to crash the car because of the rain. This salesman told me, it's ok to crash it because it's fully insured. LOL.
I guess it's all depend of how to present yourself.

I will try calling ahead. Thanks for the advice. I think its a good deal on the s2000 as well. Its an 00 for 17K with 58K on it. But its pearl white 8(. I want spa yellow soooo bad. I might bring along one of my parents next time. Do you think that will help out? I might look like a spoiled rich kid though.

I had the same issue......College student coming in to buy a rather expensive used car. They thought I was just yanking their chain. Then again, I do live in a College town, and the dealers probably get a lot of joy riders.

it all depends on the salesman. Heck, I went to drive a lancer evo and showed up in an x5 4.4, and called ahead, and they still put me through an hour of BS and didn't let me drive it.
Yet another - went with a friend to drive a Continental GT - it was the dealer's DEMO car...they wouldn't let him drive it, because he didn't look "wealthy" (they told him outright.) He had them call BMW, who subsequently told the dealer he owned a 745 and an X5, and his credit was ridiculous. Still no test drive - they told him Bentleys were for older men, he was too young to own one. Needless to say, we took our business elsewhere.

i think it's a combination of you, the car you show up in, the way you're dressed and most importantly the salesman and the dealership.
i've been very lucky i've test driven every car i've ever wanted. hell i even got a test drive in the STi and Evo when they first came out and wouldn't let anyone drive it until they purchased it.
i've taken a test drive in a Boxster, CLK430, Corvette...etc
but then again i look like i'm in my late 20's and i can generally act a lot more mature then i really am.

Sh@t happens. We got that same reaction from a Nissan dealer when me and a buddy went to go test drive an Altima. This was when they first came out and we were kinda interested in what it could do.
Both of us were in biz casual dress. My buddy drove us there, in his fixed-up MB CLK320. Proper English etc....and still no dice.
