Default Reliability of your modified car (especially with a SC)

Hello Everyone,

I am a brand new user but I have been browsing through the forums for the past few weeks. I recently purchased an '04 and am quite pleased with it. However, I am curious about increasing power and from reading through the forum, it seems that the best way to do that is to use a supercharger...probably a Comptech or something. However, I do plan on using this car as a semi-commuter (3 times a week) and don't want to sacrifice reliability (much).

What is everyone's experience using superchargers (or any other go fast parts)? How many miles have you driven your modified car and has it done anything "bad" to your car (other than maybe get you some speeding tickets)?

Thanks everyone and I appreciate any info or advice you could give me.

It all depends on you not really the car, unless you got a bad one from the factory. If you buy the right parts to work with your supercharger...get it tuned properly and treat your car fairly well, then you should have very few if any problems at all. I've had my S/C on now for 15,000 miles and had no problems what-so-ever.

Yea I was wondering about this too. Don't you need to do some real modifications like decrease the compression ratio and stuff like that? How good are these Comptech guys? I can see that they make a lot of things for the S2000, anyone have bad experiences with them? Are they Honda-specific or anything?

I believe that comptech will provide a warranty if installed by an authorized installer. Check the comptech website

Warranty for the product itself or warranty for your engine when it explodes?

Thanks guys,

I guess I'll look at both the Comptech and Vortech and check out their warranties. I was hoping someone could tell me that they had like 50k miles with a SC w/o problems.

Thanks for the feedback.

I've had my Vortech for 15 months as a daily driver (including all winter). The car has gone the last 20,000 KM (13K miles) and all is well.
I believe SCS2K has one of the original Comptech units but he doesn't come here much anymore. Also, Jerrypetersen has a well used Comptech car and no problems that I've heard. The funny thing is that most of the S/C'd cars that have shown remarkable reliability are the ones that have never been "tweeked". That is to say, no further mods were done to the kits to get more power out of them. The ones that were "tuned" and modded for a bunch more power are the ones that have given the owners more headaches. Mine was a "bolt-on and go". Comptech and Vortech did a remarkable job in the kits they put out for this car. Severely altering them may cause issues.
