Remember the first time
i had wanted an S2000 since 2003, but due to the high cost of purchasing one in Singapore (approx US$88k), and the ridiculously high premiums the insurance companies were asking for it, I settled for the Mitsubish Evolution IX instead.
Having moved to Dubai just 7 months after the purchase of my Evolution IX, I bought a 1999 Porsche Boxster as I could not find a used S2000 here, and the seats in the 06 model were just too high and I could not drive with the steering wheel rubbing my thighs.
3 weeks after I bought the Boxster, I found an S2000 in the same dealership, and for the heck it it, I climbed into the seat -- and I manged to get a good seating position! They obligingly offered a test drive, and I didn't feel so impressed on my first test drive. The Boxster's flat-6 felt creamier and less stressed compared to the insane inline-4 of the S.
A week later, I returned to the dealership again, and asked for another test drive where I drove the car in a more spirited fashion -- and promptly fell in love with it.
The next day, I returned, placed the order for the car, and in another week, I drove it off. The top-up for the S2000 (MY04) was US$6,500, including the depreciation off the Boxster, and while it does hurt, the pleasure of driving the S makes it all worthwhile. I never have a bad moment with the S.
Fast, fun, and most importantly in this part of the world where good mechanics are few and far between, reliable.

i used to own an 02 back in the UK. I had just bought a brand new car when my father asked me to come along and look at the S with him. He wasnt interested in the end but i went for a test drive anyway. 40 minute test drive hitting 100+mph - then it started to rain and we were still cruising with the top down and not getting wet.
Everything I love about the S still today is what made me go straight back to the dealer and trade my new car in for one. I had to wait 2 months for them to get it in stock, but I was the proud owner of a Monte Carlo Blue GT version

Drove a new 2002 Berlina around October of 2002. The salesman is my
friend and he let me and my other friend take the car out for a 1 hr test
drive. Just told us not to hit 6K.
After driving decently for about 15 mins, we both hit VTEC just a few times
and loved it. I was sold but could not afford to buy an S until July 2004
when I picked up a 2002 in pristine condition. Love story ... ever since.

I have owned my MY01 for only 2 months. I was looking to replace my first-gen Miata that I had sold 18 months earlier. Tested 3 or 4 second-gen cars waiting for the "wow" factor. A salesman recommended that I test drive the S, which I did. First mile out - "wow' factor kicked in. Didn't buy that one, but didn't consider anything else.
Took one out on a test drive because my friend just got one and said it puts his 330 to shame.
Drove it pretty soft for a bit and wasn't really impressed with the car, it handled great, but felt slow. Then the sales guy I was with told me to rev the engine more before shifting. Past 6k rpm and was WOWed.
One week later, picked one up.
