Default remote soft top

does anyone know if you can wire the top to go up and down by pushing a button on a remote fob? disregard the latches of course.

There is no reason why it could not be done. It just probably hasn't been done yet. Try it out and let us know how it works!

i actually have my viper fob set to put my top up. So if i am not near my car and for some reason i need to close my top quickly minus the laching i can. its been handy once in a while right before it rained and top is down. So yes it can be done.

I actually had this done on my Celica GT convertible....was about $200 to install. It was kinda pointless, because you needed to be in the car to undo the latches. I thought is was cool. It worked well at shows. When the judges come around, you just leave the roof unlatched, the hit the button, and it goes down in front of them with no one in the car.

Sure, it can be done but here are some points to consider.

Right now, you would have to have the parking brake on and the ignition switch (key) turned on. Let's say you engage the parking brake and rewire the ragtop motors to work without turning the key. Then all you would have to do is hook up a relay to a wireless transmitter in your center console activated by a key fob. You can probably pick up something like this at Radio Shack or some place that sells RC equipment.

But if you forget to unlatch the top at the strikers, you will bend your top frame. You have to get inside to do this. The chances of screwing up your top by accidentally pressing the button are way too great. And if you don't leave them latched, then the car isn't secure, rain can get in and it is noticeable to people walking by.

The only way to make it failsafe is to put sensors on the strikers. That's another thing that can go wrong, would be pretty complicated, and you could end up not being able to put your top up someday in the rain.

I like it just the way it is.

Does the soft top frame bend easily? What will go first, the motor or the frame?

ya its kind of pointless to use it to put the top down, but it does come in handy to put the top up, especially if you like leaving it down in the parking lot at times.

Not much point in an automatic top on the S... However, wiring the windows to go up and down with the fob would also be cool, and is more easily doable.

Yeah, as Slalom44 indicated, you'll need to "fake out" the parking break switch during the activation of the roof. All it takes is two relays (one small and one 30A) and a single available output channel on your alarm.

What I've done in the past is install a small limit switch to verify that the latches aren't closed. I'll admit it was a pain to do.

Also, that convertible motor uses a decent amount of current, so don't do it too many times while your car is off - just like you wouldn't blast your system too long with the car off.

Let me know if you have any questions. I'll check my S2K (picked it up Tuesday!) to see if that's a feasible solution.
