Default Removing Roof Shelf

Okay, right now I drive an old 4Runner in the winter, so there's no problem when it comes to throwing my snowboard in the back. However, when it dies, and it may be soon or the thing might go for another 250,000 miles...who knows, I'd like to put snow tires on the S2000 and use it for winter driving. The only problem is the snowboard.

I thought I read a little while back about a guy who removed that shelf that the convertable top folds down onto, then he had direct access to the trunk from inside the cabin. I'm hoping to do this and possibly remove the passenger seat as well if needed, and fit the board in that way. If anyone has investigated this, I'd love to hear any input. Or if this is a horrible idea, please let me know. Is there some kind of rack that can go on top the trunk that would work? Although that might be a bit unsightly.

Any info is appreciated.

Hmm... I don't think that's a horrible idea, Geoff. What I've seen people do for bicycles is get a trailer hitch (there are some very slick ones available for the S), and an attachment to slap on the bikes. This isn't cheap, but it's a way to go.

Would something like that hold a board? Perhaps that wouldn't be too good since the board would have to stick straight up in the air; I don't know.

Ummmm...well I'm willing to bet your board is smaller than mine and it fits perfectly in the front seat. I ride a 164 and could fit bigger. It will fit in the passenger seat. Just put it in a board bag so you don't screw up the seat. Now if you want to fit two people/two boards you would need a trunk/hitch/roof rack.

I have my tray removed. I still dont think that a snow board will fit that way. It will touch the top. I spoke to someone who is getting a ski rack for his S. Nakdboardr should know where to get one pm him.

BTW if you do take the tray out let me know if you want to sell it. I have been looking for one.

I took everything out, glad I did and my skis fit too. Tons of room....I even fit a huge IKEA bookcase in my car!

The shelf is easily removed in under 10 minutes (despite what I read here beforhand).

A small flat-head is needed to pop out the various push-pins and some effort is required to get the piece to come out.

I removed mine and put auto-carpet back there to stop the rattles associated with having a sub in back. Still a few rattles to deal with.

Speaking of the sub. What sub?
