Default Removing the stock shifter knob

I just got my Voodoo 2 shifter knob. I painted the shift pattern and it looks great! I have made an attempt to remove the stock knob but I'm having problems.

I have tried to lossen the knob. I tried to loosen the locking nut below the knob (I wrapped some electrical tape around the locking nut so I don't mess it up). Each time the whole shifter shaft starts twisting and I'm afraid I'll break something or mess up the stock knob What am I doing wrong? Help!

JUST DO IT!

Hold the shift knob, and turn the locking nut. If it didn't break when the guy overtorqued it putting it on, it won't break when you take it off.

Hold the shift knob firmly and use your wrench to turn the nut (clockwise when looking from above).

Yes.

The locking nut "untightens" when you turn it clockwise, thus freeing its grasp from the shiftknob.

Yes clockwise, the knob and the nut get tighened against eachother to keep the shift knob from turning. Also holding the shift knob will keep the shift shaft from turning and protect your tranny.

I got it. THANKS for the help. I was trying to loosen the locking nut by turning counter clockwise. Boy do I feel like a dumbass. THANKS AGAIN!

Looks like it's tine to buy some Loctite. The shift pattern end up 90 degrees off.

I also have a Voodoo knob.

I can lessen the Lock Nut, but when it comes to twisting the stock knob off.
It seems dam near impossible to turn. Its stuck tight.

I guess i should just try harder. But you always have that feeling your gonna break it, so i said f* it and just left the stock knob on. lol
