Default Repaint or not

Two weeks ago a maintainance worker was removing drywall from my property and hit my car. it left a ding in my driver side door and lots of white paint. I got several quotes for the work, finally went to dent wizard and had them remove the ding. They used compound to get the paint off, but I have multiple scratches left in my paint where the ding was. The scratches are all together and are about two inches long and 1/2 wide.

The tech guy at dent wizard said that the only way to get them out was to sand them down and then repaint the spot because the scratches are too deep for compound.

So I called a body shop that had given me a quote and they will repaint the entire door for 375 and have a lifetime warranty on the job as long as I own the car. This body shop Honda recommended to me for the work, so it seems like a decent shop.

My question is this--I'm not worried about the money cause the guy that hit it is willing to pay til we are settled, which means I'm completely satisfied with the work. My problem is that I dont want to ruin my factory job for a bunch of scratches that most people would laugh. I know from experience that no aftermarket body shop will ever be able to match a factory job. However I know that it will bug the hell out of me as long as I own the car. So if you were in this situation, what would you do?

How do you know they will not be able to match a factory job? Our reds can be easier than some of the metallic colors.

I'm not talking about color match--I'm talking about the actual paint quality of the overall job. Factory jobs will be better always because of the paint process that they can put the car thru.

That ship has sailed. Time to go to aftermarket paint.

Factory jobs COULD be better, but it's a factory and they have a schedule to uphold. A shop that is willing to take the time and do a quality job can and often does a better job.

There is no magical, mystery painting process at the factory. All the tools are available to local-type shops too.

Went to a high end shop and they repainted the whole side of the car. I've looked at it from all angles and light conditions and I cannot tell that it was repainted.

I suspect the only time you might have trouble matching is when the existing paint has started to fade...

Go to a good auto show and look at all the high end paint jobs on the custom hot rods. The cars who went to the quality paint shops will have amazing paint jobs you can pick out from a factory job any day.

Factory paint jobs suck a$$ compared to a good painters work. I'd get it redone.. but taken to a good place.
