Default Repaint vs. fill and buff

Hi, all! My S2k has two 4 inch scratches on the driver's door and one on the tank lid, all of which go down to the white layer (primer?). Car recently got keyed--really sucks on Berlina Black! So far, the quotes I've received have called for removal of the door and lid and full repaint of both components. Prices range from 680 to 750 euros. Plus, I was told that one can only approximate a paint match as even the manufacturer uses different paint batches depending on when the car was built, leaving room for doubt whether one will be able to tell the components were repainted once the job is done. My question is: are the scratches really so deep that the components have to be repainted entirely? Is there no other option? I told my friend about it and he thought I was being ripped off. All comments welcome. Thx

Since the scratches didn't penetrate the primer, I see no reason to re-paint unless they really bother you.

You can just take your time and touch up the scratches, then polish to a relatively smooth surface.
