Good - I treat my S2k well which is why I decided on a whim when the light came on and then went off that I needed an oil change ASAP (I was already due for one, this just tipped the scales and motivated me to do it today). In any case when I came on I was sitting at a stop sign and when I pulled out it disappeared - couldn't have been for more than 5-10 seconds that it was lit for!

What's the differance between the illuminations out of curiousity?

 

Our crankcase takes about 5.5 qts of oil. If you wait till your oil light flickers, you are down to about 1.5 qts. That meant that you were 4 qts short!!!! There is a reason why they call that oil light an IDIOT light.

Don't feel too bad, you have been the second person is a week who has let his oil get that low.

Yet another thread to prove once and for all that it's never wise to buy a used car since you have no idea what the hell happened to it before you bought it.

Well over 3 years everyone makes a mistake or two right? This is the first time in 3 years this has happened and normally I've got a gallon of Mobile 1 in the garage at all times which serves as my reminder to check my oil but I haven't the past 2 months so it wasn't in my head to check the oil - sue me.

I try to take the best care of my care I can but everyone has fubars. My car has had all scheduled maintenance on time, always fueled with 93 octane, was broken in correctly etc and aside from this occurance the oil level has always been maintained properly. A few of you don't need to be smart asses - its not like I let it happen 6 months after buyin the car or 3 times in a year.

One slip in 3 years of ownership isn't too bad but i'll have to be more conscious of this in the future. You better believe I'm going out to get that gallon this afternoon

 

If it hasn't already been mentioned, VTEC is engaged through the use of oil pressure to the VTEC solenoid, and from the VTEC solenoid to the cam followers upon command from the ECU. From what you described, you were very, very low on oil

What I dun't understand is, why you waited to change the oil to correct this instead of just simply "adding" motor oil in intervals in between oil changes

 

I think I'm 1/4 of a quart down and I'm paranoid
