Default Results of Fuel Economy Study

Hello all- This is a follow-up to a survey I'd taken here a few months ago, I had asked for drivers to submit one number as an average of their S2000 fuel economy in mixed driving. Thanks to those who participated, you helped me earn an "A" on my Statistics project in COunty College of Morris. Results as follows:

Number of data samples= 46
Mean= 23.75 MPG
Standard Deviation= 2.599
Lowest data value= 16 MPG
Highest= 27.5
Range= 11.5

The most surprising fact from the results (for me) was that most of the data values fell between 20 and 26 MPG, just as the EPA said they should. I have to wonder though how many people with really crappy mileage didn't bother participating? Seems to me that anecdotally on this site, most of the fuel economy talk is about people with really low numbers, yet the majority of those who contributed to my survey had reasonable numbers.

Why bother posting about it if your mileage is simply normal? I don't imagine too many people would post a topic of "HELP!!! Fuel mileage is exactly what Honda says it should be!"

Thanks for the numbers.

Wow, how did someone average 27.5? That's only 2mpg lower than the highest value I've ever attained. Must be a heavy freeway commuter.

Ill contribute to your research.
Im from Australia so I am not sure if the figures might differ with you guys from the States.

Highest: 7.5L /100km (30.93MPG)
Lowest: null
Average: 9L / 100km (25.77MPG)

Number of Km's to a tank BEST: 520km (325 Miles)
Number of Km's to a tank WORST: null
Number of Km's to a tank AVERAGE: 450km (281 Miles)

The Best and Highest Figures were, when my Misses and I went to the country for a week and pretty much did Highway/country road runs. And I did V-tec it a couple of times just for fun.

The Average is when I am doing a bit of Highway (30%), Freeway (30%), a Bit of City (10%) and Suburb Driving (30%).

When I fill up there is always three bars showing and that is about 10L left in the tank. It is quite a fuel effcient car given its performance stats. So yeah....

I hope this information helps

Kind regards Jacob K

Jacob, your figures are for UK gallon (Aus is the same) which is 4.54 litres vs 3.78 litres for 1 US gallon.

Yup -- gotta take that into consideration when you're looking at any discussion forum (regardless of the topic).
