Well I have to say... I am very interested as well. However whoever took the pics, needs to learn to use ms photoeditor's autobalance feature to fix the exposure...

With the modifications made to the frame, it looks like the strap is stressing the two frame ribs together. I wonder if this will prematurely stress the ribs and cause them to break or something.

That's what warranty's are for.

Interesting idea, definitely worth doing if the roof has to be changed for any reason.

A couple of comments...
  • There are only two pop studs for the hood cover on the MY2002, the centre two are missing. The cover is a very tight fit in the centre on the '02. Do the centre two studs need to be removed.
  • On the 2002 it seems that the fabric containing the window is wrapped over the cross support, so that the support twist the window as the roof is lowered.
  • One of the MY2001 owners here has a problem, that sometimes his roof will not lower. It appears that the webbing across the supports is under tension. This causes the cross supports to fold as the roof lowers. On his car, there is not enough tension in the webbing. I imagine that this is why springs are fitted on the MY2002. Does the MY2002 roof have the webbing?
It would be very interesting to see pictures of the conversion from inside, as the roof is lowered. It would be nice to have a gallery with MY2000 and MY2002 pictures at the same positions.

The installation of the elastic straps raises another question.

I know that the plastic window in the '00 & '01's is a little larger than the glass window in the '02, but I wonder if installing the elastic straps on the earlier top frame would cause it to retract without folding/creasing the plastic window.

If so, that would go a long way toward alleviating many of the complaints about the plastic window for a relatively small amount of money.

I can't see that being possible. The plastic window is actually quite a bit taller than the glass window. Even with the elastic straps in place, the plastic window will still have to fold somewhere.
