I just noticed the same thing, my 2002 S2000 with 5600 miles cuts out at 7000 when cold...even after sitting for one hour (NY in Dec). Is this normal?

i found that out the 2nd day i got it.. started it, let it run for like 5 minutes.. then took it out and stomped it... rev limiter hit at like 5k... got scared thinking something was wrong. talked to a few people and found out until the car is warmed up, the rev limiter will be alot lower for safety..
gotta love honda !

Even if you were to warm up the engine for 5 minutes before driving away, consider that there are other parts that also need warming up. The diff and the transmission also need warming up. Even if you ran the engine for 5 minutes before driving off, the engine would still not be at optimal operating temperature.

I would warm up to two bars then slowly drive away. Within 2-3 miles, the engine will be at three bars, the diff and transmission will be warmed up. The car is now ready to be romped on.

If you ever went to a driving school and hopped in a racecar and went full tilt boogie right after starting the car on the first lap, you would probably get a talking to.

It is hard on the equipment, also you have to warm up your driving skills. I was always told "let the speed come to you"

Maybe someone (hello moderators?) can put up a note about this at the top of the forum?? Makes me sick to think anyone can try to redline a cold engine. The car needs a little hand that pops out of the steering wheel to dope-slap anyone who tries this. Maybe Rick Hesel can help.
