it is very difficult for me to get into reverse, especially in the cold, i only have 2000 miles on my car. is it normal? is there a special routine before trying to get to reverse such as going to forth first? i don't want to hurt my tranny.
thanks guys
Danny

Have you read your manual? You do know that you have to push down on the gear knob before pulling over and back -- right?

Wow. I hope after 2000 miles he/she knows that!

I sometimes have a real problem trying to get the gear to notch into reverse. I usually end up having to "crunch" it. Same thing with shifting into first gear. I've demonstrated it to the Honda mechanic, but as there's no alert about the problem from Honda NA, he's pretty clueless what he can do about it. Changed the tranny oil, but that made no difference. Or whether the engines hot or cold.

I used to have this same problem. Try placing the shifter in the first gear position, then over to reverse. I do this all the time now, and I don't have any problems anymore.

This isnt anything new with the S2000, this has happened with every manual car I have owned (Z06, Civic SI, and S2k) It's natural for me to put it in first, then put it in reverse.. it seems to align .. stuff.. or .. something..?

Dont force the shifter in to gear, that's bad for the transmission.

This should happen when the transmission is cold, when it warms up it should be fine -- unfortunatly you don't need to go in to reverse while you're traveling down the highway!

Here's a hint I use on my, S2000, Pantera ('74), my step dad's Diablo 6.0,as well as my '93 Jeep:

1) Put car in 1st gear..rock forward slightly
2) Shift into reverse

I don't think reverse is synchronized. If it wont go in reverse let clutch out then push back down and try again.
