Yeah, I bought both. I primarily wanted a numerical display of coolant temp (and to also to eliminate my Autometer gauge) and intake air temp to see how well my Vortech aftercooler worked during different types of driving environments.
Both shops provided excellent, fast and reliable service. Pricing for me was more advantageous from BoomPlusToys as Morris cut me a smokin' deal on the Apex.
I bought the Brockway first because it gave a couple of extra readouts that the Apex did not AND it also doubled as a code reader. However, this unit is HUGE. There was no place in the S2000 cockpit that this thing could be reasonably mounted. I even took it apart to see if I could remotely mount only the display part but it too, was exceptionally large. I got frustrated and simply gave up finding a suitable place to mount the thing.
Then I purchased the Apex I-moni. It is very tiny by comparison and much more attractive when used as a permanently mounted gauge.
Aside from my preference for the Apex due to its smaller packaging, here are my thoughts on the two:
Brockway:
-displays more engine parameters.
-displays 2 parameters at once (coincidentally, the 2 I wanted were displayed together).
-incorporates a 2 button method of selection - can be tedious to select different parameters when driving.
-displays in both metric and english units.
-includes a code reader and code reset feature.
-physically HUGE- nearly impossible to find a permanent mounting place. Best used for track duty where you could just velcro it to the top of the dash.
-hard to read in daylight, even when viewed head-on and on brightest setting.
-unattractive appearance.
-less expensive.
-plugs into OBD II port and is powered by same.
Apex I-moni:
-displays only one parameter at a time using 4 individual buttons - easy selection process.
-display only in metric.
-no code reader.
-nice compact size for easy mounting.
-large, bright LED numbers that can be read in daylight.
-more expensive
-plugs into OBD II port and is powered by same.
-holds and can show MAX reading for any given driving cycle.
-instruction manual is ONLY written in Japanese, but is not hard to figure out how to install and use it.
I wish I had purchased the Apex first, then I would have saved from not having to buy another one.
well at least you can still sell the brockway, but nice review I always wondered if such device was made for the s2000 and now you confirmed it and the apexi sounds like exactly what I was looking for......
