please dont flame me for this but im just puzzled.

i have HKS 4-1 headers for my S and have had them for about 3months now. I believe they are stainless steel like most of the other brands out there ie toda. What i wanted to know how come my headers havnt changed to that nice purply burnt look as yet? most headers i have seen change within a few hours/days of driving. I recently tracked my car a few days ago, and yet the color still the same?

Just curious.

 

only titanium turns blue i thought.... stainless steel stays the same colour.....

 

- you sometimes see some different colors in weld spots on stainless steel header(s), but not the whole thing.

Just thought I'd throw this out there before someone else comes in and says it not so nicely: S2000's have a header. They don't get the plural version. Just a FYI in case you're speaking about header(s) on S2Ki in the future

 

I have seen the J's racing version which is stainless and it has turned to a burned steel look, kind of a putty color with some purplish blueish hues. Kinda like harley's with nice exhaust piping and what not. Even when chromed, right where they bolt up to the engine the heat is enough to fire the piping to different colors.

the ability of your header to change colors would rely on 1. what, if any alloys are in use in the metal itself 2. what, if any treatments are done to the outside (plating of any kind) 3. how hot and for how long it has been raised to

 

My Toda header has turned blue. I don't think it's Ti.
Motorcylce headers will also turn blue in time. Not many of them are Ti, either. It may be due to the kinds of heating and cooling they are subjected to and whether or not they've been coated (inside or out).

Yes, that's normal, a header can change colors. Sometimes the oils from your hands can influence the color the header changes as well. My friends DC2 had a toda header with a blue finger print on it.

Not if you clean it before firing up the motor after install. Otherwise any oils, etc on the header will cause it to change color.
