If you ever restart the project, I suggest you consider also doing a driver's side version for the V1. A lot more people have Valentines than nav systems, I'll bet; I for one have my V1 in exactly that spot, and would definitely prefer (and pay for) your solution.

Right now, this project is stalled. The faculty director of the Manufacturing Engineering program at OSU-Okmulgee left for another job, and we're now back to ground zero, since he had accomplished very little with the students.

I'll be trying to get this going again with the new program head, but for now it's going nowhere.
This post just ruined my day.

I was really looking forward to this product.

That's too bad that you're having so much trouble. Let me know if there's anything I can do to help, Rick.

this may a bit far away, but NCSU has a great mech. engineering department, and a lot of industry contacts.

It might be worth seeing if you can't set up some sort of senior project through them.

Can't you get someone else to engineer this thing? I bet you'd sell hundreds of them easy. The typical buyer is someone who has already dropped $400 for a V1 and over $500 for a GPS, I'm sure you could sell them for more than $200/ea. I'm sick of having all this crap on my windshield and I think it's even illegal in some states now to have stuff suctioned to your windshield.

I'm interested in a Garmin Nuvi mount as well, so bringing the thread back from the dead.

Also, if this project is a go in the near future, how would it accomodate the flip up antenna of the Nuvi, just wondering.

Eric

hey rick when i seen this on your car at mid winter gathering i thought it was the coolest thing ever...i really think you should do something like this...i think there's a ton of people interested...and its either this or paying someone to cut up your dash and then rape you cost wise afterwards.
