Brake pads do normally look like they are touching the rotor. Additionally, we have no idea what kind of resistance you are feeling when you rotate the wheel, so it's really hard to tell you if what you discovered is odd or not. Turning the rear wheel will give lots of resistance because you are turning the rear diff, prop shaft and output shaft of the tranny. The fronts will feel much more "free" to spin because they are not driving anything or being driven by anything.

Now you must find out why your tire lost so much pressure. You never answered the question about why you thought you had a bent rim. This may have some bearing on what's going on. If you ask for help, it's only polite to answer questions asked of you.

[QUOTE]I find it curious that you would mention this. Why? Did you run into or drive over something odd? That's about the only way you could have a bent rim."

Sorry I didn't address this before but to answer the question:

No I don't think I ran over anything odd or damaging to the car. I avoid potholes like my life depended on it (ran over a pothole the size of a dog at night once and blew out both right side tires and bent both rims in my Jetta.. and I've had a phobia of potholes ever since lol). I go over speedbumps slowly so I don't bottom out so I'm sure theres no wheel damage from speedbumps. I don't recall anything specifically that sticks out in my mind as something that would have really screwed the car up. Every now and then I go over an unexpected bump but make attempts to be careful.

Since it felt like it was tire related I was just brainstorming to figure out what it *could possibly be.. it *felt related to the wheel or something that was quickly rotating in that area of the car. Bent rim, brakes, lug nuts, tire pressure.. all seemed to be possibilities.

Thanks for explaining. I believe that having only 10 psi in that one tire may be the reason for this thumping. Now that you've got it pumped back up, has it stopped?
As stated before, you need to now find out why the tire was that low - puncture, bead break, bad valve, prank by some passer by?
