Default rim/tire weight makes a huge diff! wow!

i was going to upgrade my rims from stock 16" to some 17" or 18", but decided NOT to. I got some 18" rims for my other ride, the new rim/tire weighed 13lbs more per corner.

the extra 13lb makes the car drive like a different car now, totally killed the acceleration and handling. it's like i'm driving with 900 lbs in the trunk????? WTF?

no plussized heavier rims/tires for me!! if the S drove like this i'd go crazy

yup, makes the brakes work harder and suspension. i forgot the rule of thumb. something like 7 lbs body weight for every pound on each wheel.

luckily the oem 17's are pretty much the same weight of the 16' but with the weight a little farther out being 17 rather than 16.

When I got my 18" WORK SR22's the thing I noticed most was that the steering felt a little heavier (which I like). It's a trade off really, the stats on my cornering and slalom undoubtedly went up, while straigt-line performance probably went down just a tad.

I have heard the performance rule of thumb for wheels is about 1lb / inch of diameter.

I have the 18" ce28n with toyo t1-s and each corner was 2lbs lighter than the stock 02 wheels with the stock SO2 tires. No problems here.

I don't think any decent wheel for the S2K would be 13 lbs heavier per wheel than stock. So I don't think you have to worry much. In some cases you can find at least the same weight as stock or less.

i don't plan on putting wheels on the car that weigh more than stock. i'm not a big fan of form over function.

I remember last year there was a show on Speedchannel that was doing a buildup on some frontdriver. They saw a noticeable drop in whp when they installed bigger brake rotors.

Rotating mass is not your friend. (Anyone make 14 or 15 inch wheels that will fit the S? )
