It actually helps your credit score if you carry a balance and make monthly payments on it. If you carry a small balance like $100 and make minimum payments plus any new charges you made that month, it will cost you very little extra. You'll be buying a great credit score for a couple dollars a month.
This sucks OP, sorry about the car. How long did you ins coverage lapse? Maybe you can write them some letters and plea you case with them? I'd try something because otherwise you are royally screwed up the wazoo.
I had a similar accident where I spun out, hit a pole and spun the other way 360 and ended on the other side of the road.
However your damage seems worse. I had damage only one side of the car.
Anyways it cost me $4k + to get new fender/door/all suspension parts/ bumpers painted/wheels.
My car didn't feel the same way as it did before for a long time until I got a new alignment done at this reputable alignment shop.
Good luck.

Calvinnnnn - consider this a very expensive lesson in financial responsibility. Auto Insurance policies have very specific verbiage to limit their liability. If your previous policy ended and your new policy had not been paid at the time of the accident, you were not insured. Look at the policy - It has a start date and an expiration date. You can blame your parents or anyone you want, but it's your car, and your responsibility.
If you plan to continue to be "late" with your financial responsibilities in the future, get used to paying through the nose for your mistakes. People who always meet their financial obligations on time have good credit scores, lower interest rates, and don't have lapses in their insurance policies.
It gets worse. Not only will you end up having to pay off your car loan and pay for your repairs out-of-pocket, but your insurance rates will skyrocket. There's a good chance that you may get dropped by your insurance carrier, too.
There's more: Most (if not all) states have penalties for failure to maintain liability insurance on registered vehicles. My policy states, "These penalties may include suspension of your vehicle registration, confiscation of your license plates and suspension of your driver's license or operating priveleges".
But there's good news. Your failure to maintain control of your S2000 may not contribute to the insurance statistics on the cost of insuring an S2000 for the rest of us.
