Hi,
I had a similar problem with a seller on eBay some time ago.

The local police in hes area, is the way to go. Call the sherifs office first. If he lives in the limits of a city, they should refer you to the city police. Either way, you want to talk to a detective, and get a good contact number.

You can notify the FBI and the Postal Inspector but they are looking for bigger fish and may not be of much help.

It is a bit late, but you need to report him to eBay for fraud. They are getting a little more strict on sellers and might suspend his account until this is resolved.

Theft is theft and people should not feel that they can get away just becaus they are insulated by distance.

Good luck

Stop dilly dallying and just call the police and FBI. You sent him a money order via mail, so that is mail fraud too. You've done your part, you shouldn't have to twist the seller's arm or coax him into sending something you sent money for.

I have little paitence for people who want to play these games. Business is business, and the crooks should feel the wrath of the law.

This happended to me once, and I lost about a thousand.

I tried police, identity crime division, ebay, and everything. The police said it happend 2-300 cases a day, everyday, and that was 5 years ago. He also said that FBI and local police there probably wouldn't even bother to look at the case either, 'cause the amount was so small if it was ten thousand dollars it would be different..

Ebay has this stupid regulation that before you file the report and have them investigate, you should try everything, in a polite manner first, and should give the seller a time about 3 month or so before you could file the complain, again, that was about 5 years ago, I don't know how they work now.

In the end, nobody could help me. I lost $1000. It's not much compare to national scale, but to me it wasa my hard earn money that I just sent to a complete stranger to enjoy. I never visit ebay site ever again since, and will never support any police agency either, lazy dirty pig.

Just to give you an idea of what might happend if you fallow the rules and regulation trying to catch the guy who doesn't. Good luck, tough. I hope they all burn 'n rod in hell. There was a front cover on the Washington post yesterday say that you can buy someone social security number for $35, you guys becareful out there.

Use Paypal ! You can get your fund back if the seller can'y proved that he mail u the item. Someone tried to steal my $67 for a shift knob. Never got the knob but got my money back.

Pete, I'm sorry that it happened to you.

I, too, agree with paypal. I usually make payment through credit card instead of bank account. but if you use it, watch out for phishing messages.

another tip for ebay is look for positive on selling. if there's none, forget buying anything.

last, contact ebay fraud, leave him a negative - that usually get his attention, write to FBI internet fraud unit.

internet fraud complaint center - http://www.ifccfbi.gov/index.asp
good FBI info - http://www.fbi.gov/majcases/fraud/internetschemes.htm

Post his number on here

At lease that way he will have to change his phone number at the very least... I will call him at least 10 times a day for you when I am bored at work and I know others will too

good luck in working this out. Did you contact the issuing bank of the money order to see if it was deposited? I would do that, and if it hasn't been then you might be in time to cancell the money order. Let's just hope he's lazy about depositing money as he is mailing stuff off.

Umm.. the police tell you that this happens 200-300 times a day, and because they can't help you they are lazy dirt bag pigs?

I'm pretty sure I wouldn't our whole police force spending thier entire time catching people who rip off people on ebay.

Seriously, am I missing something??
