Road & Track's Critique
Chris, cthree and Bieg et al, have all nailed it. I can't really add more to what these guys have said. I do, however, find one thing interesting and Chris alluded to this. Stan, aka E30M3, seems to somehow be able, or give the appearance of knowledge of the S2000 when even he will admit, I am confident, can only be gained through seat time. Stan, I read your posts and respect many of your insights, but you cannot speak to the intricacies of the S2000 without owning one.
Do I think you will be happy, RoadSurfer? If what you ave described here is accurate, you will be pleased 5 times over. Get the car, you will love it's nasty aggressive nature...it's a fantastic machine...

Understood Stan, my only point was that if one is asking to learn about an S2000, that information is best gained via people who actually own one...and not through those who speak merely through 'objective knowledge.'
My statements were not meant as any kind of personal assault on your integrity as a certified car nut, most of us here are just that.
As I said before, I respect your knowledge and you do bring insight to our discussions, albeit from a different perspective, which is great. I would only hope that your contribution would occur in threads which are all about things that are not so specifically S2000-related. That's it...
Of course, you are welcome to post whatever you like...but given RoadSurfer rather specific questions, it would make more sense that a person with an S2000 would be able to answer those questions more apropriately...which, to me at least, is a point that is difficult to argue. Most certainly not intended as a slam towards you, your car or your input here...you obviously know your stuff, I respect you for that.

The R & T guy probably just stepped out of a Lexus and had raved about the way the cabin was as "silent as his den". Screw him if he can't take a joke. The stook a little louder and rougher than most, but what it returns in driving satisfaction is well worth it.
TOP DOWN, HIGH SPEED
It's windy, it's noisy - but that's kind of the point.
I don't bother with the stereo absolutely because I want to hear all that noise. That's a good thing because the stereo's crap anyway.
HIGH SPEED, TOP UP
You can hear the great
stereo just fine.
LOW SPEED, TOP UP OR DOWN
You can drive it like a Civic - but I bet you won't for long.
9000 RPM is just tooooooooo tempting.
(BTW don't take R&T's 55mph to mean "high speed" 55mph in sixth is pretty tame).

I can drive for hours well over 55 in the stook and when I stop and get out my ears don't hurt and I can hear just fine. For me, that's all I ask. I've been in sport cars where that wasn't the case and your ears paid a price for long cruises. The S2k will treat you just fine. I'm also starting believe there is nothing on this side of a Ferrari that's more fun to drive.
I've had my S2K over a year and have driven it for commuting, road trips (over 200 mile days), and into the twisties, and I must say that the R&T guy either does not like roadsters in general (b/c everything he disliked are typical of roadsters), or he's already bias in some otehr way. Those of us who own and drive the S2K daily or regularly LOVE our car! Whether on the track or on the street, this car can handle, better than many drivers are used to...thus the R&T guy must just be used to soft cars. Anyways, I highly recomend the car so long as you never take driving for granted and remember that youa re driving a unique performance vehicle for one hell of a price. Just my opinion. =)
