Road Trip
My wife and I wanted to go on a road trip and decided to go north to beat the heat of summer. I have wanted to take some road trips with the S2000 but she was cautious about how comfortable the ride would be. I checked the fluids, put the top down and we left on a Tuesday morning for our first leg of the trip to Minneapolis, MN. The top was back up as the temperatures were in the 90’s. We stopped by Full Blown Motorsports, 6915 146th St, Apple Valley, MN and met by Justin who explained that they were preparing to move to Edina, MN in the near future.
We visited some old friends in Minneapolis and the next morning left for Duluth, MN. Upon arriving there we attempted to take the scenic drive around the bay but found road construction and rough roads that caused our plans to change and we drove around their historic downtown and the pier.
In the morning I checked the oil and found that it was 1.5 quarts low. I bought and added oil and installed a new PVC valve. We left in fog and rain to travel to Ontario and even though the road was adjacent to Lake Superior it was difficult to see past the shoreline.
We visited falls at Gooseberry Falls State Park.

and then the light house at Split Rock, where we still could not see more than a thousand feet off shore.

The rain and fog lifted by the time we arrived at the Canadian border and we turned northwest to the Nolalu Eco Centre B&B, 50 First Road, Nolalu, Ontario. They built a super-insulated home that is powered by solar panels.
We then traveled to Kakabeka Falls, which has a drop of 130’, it is quite spectacular.

Lunch was at Metropolitan Moose Beanery and Café in Kakabeka whose owner loves Hondas and has quite a collection in all states of repair at his home.

After a brief tour of Thunder Bay we returned to the Metropolitan Moose for an afternoon coffee and took the scenic route to our next B&B near Lappe, Ontario. The Country Cozy Bed and Breakfast, 1083 Moving Post Road, Thunder Bay, Ontario is a great place to stay with wonderful hosts. We ate dinner at a Mediterranean restaurant in Thunder Bay. In the morning we returned to Minneapolis to visit family and the next day we visited family in Rochester and then home after a quick trip to Cabela’s.
Trip observations:
1760 miles round trip
28.5 mpg average
Bridgestone Potenza RE 070 tires ride great and handle well in rain
No complaints about road weariness
No additional oil consumption after the new PVC valve
Six (6) S2000s spotted, too many Corvettes and Mustangs to count
The view of Lake Superior as we returned to Minneapolis.
