Talking Road trip planning

Well, I would like to take a road trip this summer, and would like some input on good drives. I live in eastern ND, so I would like to stay in South Dakota and surrounding areas (except Iowa, seen enough of it.) I am mostly looking for some fun roads to drive on, and maybe stop and see a couple of things on the way, Mt. Rushmore for instance. I have a budget of around $2500, and would like to spend at least 4 days out, no more than a week. If anyone has driven around this area and can chip in ideas for roads/attractions, I would appreciate the info. Thanks in advance!

This might be more useful for you to post something like this in your regional forum. I doubt people from all over the world won't have a clue as to what good roads there are in your area. I sure don't know.

This is a little farther than what you're asking for, but you can make the Nebraska Sand Hills in a day. Very unique area that you'll never forget, especially if you drive on the dinky little asphault roads they've laid out all over it. Some good photos are near the bottom of this page.

Mt Rushmore is in the Black Hills, which have lots of S-type roads (but also lots of tourists), and you could do the Nebraska Sand Hills, too, by going south from Rapid City. With that kind of $$, your options include some pretty nice places to stay. HPH

How about Minnesota and Wisconsin? Just looking at the map, there seems to be lot's of possibilities.

Let us know what you decide!
